I am interested in taking some cooking classes. Has anyone taken any at The Chopping Block? Any other suggestions?

Some time ago I took some classes at CHIC (Cooking & Hospitality Institute of Chicago) and really enjoyed them. I know locally, Sur Le Table and Williams Sonoma offer periodic classes in addition to Whole Foods in Wheaton (on specific types of food).

I was given a gift cert. for some cooking classes at the Chopping Block. I went to the facility in the Merchandise Mart. The first time I went, they actually made roasted poultry and vegetables. I was a little surprised as I had thought that it would be something different than a 101 class. Very beginner in its scope. The instructor was neither entertaining nor informative . . . and he did the impossible, IMO. Dried out bird.

Personally, I would be very specific about what I was interested in learning before plunking down one U.S. dollar at the CB.

COD has accredited culinary art classes. Had a friend in the restaurant industry who is taking a couple classes just for his own middle age interest. If you're in the district that could be a good way to go. Part of their campus rebuild is devoted to the industry and certainly you don't have to be perusing a degree to participate.
