Beware donations through Visa; they're taking 3% as a fee.

Apple now takes contributions for the Red Cross through iTunes. As easy as buying a song.

Visa the card or Visa the website?

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

That's seriously LAME of Visa....not to mention that it HAS to be bad publicity for the firm.

Ted: That's awesome about iTunes, though.

It's refreshing to see all of these corporations, and even smaller firms, coming together to offer assistance in a time like this. Whether there be ulterior motives or not, it's still helping.

VISA announced that they are waiving transaction fees on donations to Haiti last week, as did AMEX. The fee waiver seems to be only for certain charities, so choose wisely.

Hi,
The iTunes thing was a great idea.

Regarding the coverage of this tragedy, I was impressed with the two rival TV stations from Australia. They worked together to help get a baby pulled out of the wreckage.

Edited to remove references to public figures who should not have their hateful positions promoted in any way in this thread. Please... let's stick to the “Help Haiti” topic title and take the politicing elsewhere. Thanks! —Ted E.

Hi,
Right you are, Ted. Sorry about that. The important thing is that it sounds like they are finally starting to get some of the aid distributed to the outlying areas, and still finding survivors alive. Hope things continue to improve.

Meson Sabika donated 100 percent of yesterday's sales to aid Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti; owner Jamali said response was about double his expectations

There are some people in this world that just makes things happen. Whenever there is a need, Naperville’s Hossein Jamali at Meson Sabika opens his doors and his heart to help.

After all the dining is finished today, the popular tapas restaurant will donate 100 percent of all sales---that's 100 percent of your tab for lunch or dinner or cocktails--- to the American Red Cross for Haitian Relief.

In addition, Naperville Rotary Charities agreed to match dollar for dollar whatever is raised up to $5,000 during lunch and dinner at Meson Sabika, according to NRC board member Jerry Feldott.

By 1:22PM, Wednesday, nearly 750 reservations had been booked and the phone was still ringing.

In the wake of the horrific earthquake, Jamali hoped to write a $10,000 check. But by mid-afternoon, the grateful owner said it looked as though the amount would be double his expectations.

As a follow up, Meson Sabika did $21,000 in sales that night and they matched that making the entire donation $42,000. The Naperville rotary club matched the first $5000, so a total of $47,000 was donated to the Red Cross. How awesome is that!
