What a sad, sad event in Haiti. Kudos to Bry for suggesting this.
Bry, do you know if they accept clothing? I don't have "extra" cash flows right now and even the food source is running scarce (I ate boxed stuffing for dinner last night)....but I have alot of still useful clothing that we could donate....

NPR said that they are in no way set up to take actual donations of items; it's only feasible to donate money to organizations like the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders. The infrastructure is gone (and hardly existed in the first place, sadly); they can't distribute anything right now.
I have a few friends that were 10 miles from the epicenter in a boat when the quake hit. We have not heard from them yet but know from others that they are safe. We are getting word that this disaster is on a level that we have not seen before. It is something that is way beyond what we can comprehend. These people are going though the closest thing to hell a living human has ever had to deal with. I urge all of you once again, all of you that value a human life, to donate or send your prayers to the wonderful people of Haiti.

Well, prayers are necessary, as well! And hold on to your items; I would imagine that as time goes on and things get stabilized, items such as clothing might then be needed and organizations will be looking for donations like that.
I think the Red Cross site was overwhelmed this a.m.. I tried to donate but I don't believe it ever went through. I'll have to check my credit card account.
And for those working for larger corporations, perhaps check to see if your company will be doing any sort of matching gifts type of deal - my employer is.

Please be aware of the transaction cost of your donation through credit cards. Capital One has a designated site for charitable donations that send 100% of the amount charged, rather than deducting the fees.

Looks like the $10 donations made by cell phone users has now hit $5 million. Here's how to do it for those who may not have much to give, but can manage an extra $5 or 10 on the next cell phone bill.
From what I'm seeing on CNN, unless you're a trained rescue worker, or trained medical provider, it's money they need desperately.
Also, this web site rates various charities for 'legitimacy' and has a link regarding Haiti: http://charitywatch.org/
"As of Thursday afternoon, the Red Cross had raised more than $4 million in donations via its text message campaign: Text "Haiti" to 90999, and a $10 donation is added to your cell phone bill. The mechanism is so wonderfully simple -- removing credit cards and PayPal accounts from the equation entirely -- that donations have flooded in. Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti, meanwhile, is leveraging the same technology: Text "YELE" to 501501 to make a $5 donation."
The Red Cross cell phone campaign has now reached $5 million. Stories like this are helping to take the taste of Pat Robertson & Rush Limbaugh out of my mouth a little. God bless all the workers and people of good will who are trying to help.

I've been told that Oxfam has a great track record in Haiti as well so if you are still thinking of donating and haven't, some people might consider this.
They have some amazing photos on their site as well....and one of their workers was confirmed killed. So sad.

Amy...your opinion (since you're married to a doctor ). What about "Doctor's Without Borders?" It sounds like along with food, that medical supplies and aid to the doctors is needed as well?
