Ted's posting about Art Linkletter reminds me that we all have these connections. The more obscure, the better. No politicians or current athletes.

Norm Van Lier and I got our shoes shined at the same time at Presidential Towers. "I tell you what...."

More Presidential Towers: Jose Cura sang to the stunning blond at the front desk of Habitat Corporate Suites. He was an understudy to Placido at the time.

My Grandfather managed a hotel in New York City. While a guest at the facility, Babe Ruth hit on my Grandmother.

He struck out.

I once shook hands with the current Mayor Daley at a dinner function. Still gives me the creeps!

No politicians. There is nothing random about shaking hands with a politician. However, I stood next to him as his coat started on fire from a candle at Old St. Pat's.

I "dated" (read: we traded swatches and talked on the phone a lot) Colin Egglesfield in 8th grade. He was on All My Children for several years and the new Melrose Place.

I was waiting in line for a one stall bathroom at a bar and Coco Taylor followed me in and proceeded to pee right in front of me, chatting casually the whole time.

The Administrator of this here GEB suggests that this particular tangent within this thread not be followed, and that no further “short” jokes are required.

Since the title of this thread is "brush with fame" I'm disturbed by what happened while you urinated.

I couldn't think of my brush with fame until Clam mentioned his brush at the urinal.

I urinated next to Tony Little. No, those are not hair extensions.

Little. Short. What's the diff?

Clam is 5'6". Volcker is 6'7". The mind boggles.

I spent my early 20's in the camera department of film crews in Wilmington, NC (hollywood east). Met quite a few famous folks, enough to realize most are nothing more than a ball of insecurity and in need of constant attention. Some of my favorite stories to tell are:

Jamie Lee Curtis "The Bod" - filming the movie Virus, she hated the director, hated the movie, loved the crew. She came flying out of the sound stage mad as heck "that woman has a vocabulary that could embarrass a Teamster". Everyone was getting rashes from the water tank we were filming in. She was heading to her trailer, tearing off her costume. I, just so happen to be coming around the corner as the last piece of her costume went flying... At 24, that got my attention.

Mariel Hemingway admitting she has never read a single word of her grandfather's work, doesn't even own any of his books. She was an idiot on the set anyway.

The look on the faces of Mark Wahlberg and his "boyz" when I asked if they were the funky bunch. He tried to get me fired for that one. Everyone else thought it was hilarious, especially since he held up production for 2 days while he hopped a private jet back to LA for his girlfriend, and to re-supply the funky bunch's "stash".

Donald Sutherland walking past a special effects warehouse in the back lot as I was talking to two of my friends. He instructing them, both prop master, not to smoke on the lot or he would have them banned from the facility. They weren't even on our crew, they were on I Know What You Did Last Summer. Union reps had to step in to get him under control. Funny thing is.....we had rented him a Volvo for the show, of which I drove back to Wilington from VA alone... guess what was in the glove box...

Bruce Willis - Jackal - loves the ladies. That's all I say about that.

Wish I could post some pictures around here. Everytime I try, i get an error saying they're too big.

Meaning the file size is too large. If you reduce them to somewhere around 500 pixels wide (at 72 or 75 dpi) they should do fine.

Good stories. Crazy business.
