Hassle in Haight over McDonald's menu change

Many homeless think taking away the Dollar Menu is the restaurant management's ploy to get them to go somewhere else. Management locks the bathroom door and frequently calls the cops. On top of that, Mayor Gavin Newsom and several Haight Street merchants are pushing a November ballot measure that would ban sitting or lying on public sidewalks.

Last week after a tasty breakfast at Einstein's I waited & waited on the men's room, before giving up and using the ladies room. And, yes ladies, I lifted the seat, then placed it down when I was done. Big Grin

When I sat down again, one of GE's "guests" had just come out after taking a sink bath in the men's room. Doesn't PADS offer these guests an opportunity to clean up or has that fallen to the Einstein's bathroom? I can see where the McDonald's manager in this article is coming from.

Library wasn't open yet, I guess.

At least it wasn't occupied by "crazy lady who sits on the sidewalk for hours pulling all of her hairs out with a tweezers". that would be nasty in an einsteins.

Haven't seen her. I have noticed the tall black guy that talks to himself hasn't been around, hopefully he's gotten some help.

Is PADS the only program where the beneficiaries Gain weight? I've never seen so many morbidly obese homeless people.

I'm surprised you haven't seen her... She big, wears a bandana all the time. Sleeps in the little gazebo in the park across from the train station.

The tall talks to himself guy is around. The "Jesus" guy with the leg brace is still here too. Wayne has disappeared and 50Cent Tony has upped his asking price to a couple of bucks.

All is well at the GE Pads.

I really like the "Please Wait to Be Seated" at several of our local eateries. This policy tends to keep the vagrants at bay. I will say, I avoid any place that has vagrants loitering about, just don't feel comfortable bring the kids in!

PADS does offer the opportunity for them to clean up....there are showers specifically for them, they just need to get there in time (or get up in time) to use them.

And no, McDonald's is not on the PADS menu. It is all relatively healthy home-cooked meals made in the kitchen at the church and everyone who received them when I was there was more than grateful (and polite- oftentimes moreso than people walking down the street in GE, I may add).
