etiquette We have a dear friend who can't go five minutes w/o checking hers. One time we met her for dinner and she spent half the night texting this guy she was dating, I was ready to toss that thing out the window. I love technology and how it makes some things in life easier, but some folks just run amok with this stuff. Next time your driving or walking around, check and see how many folks are on their cellphones while driving, I think you'll be amazed. Several years ago when my husband got his first Blackberry, I started to wonder if he also had gotten himself a girlfriend!! He would go into the garage - as he would frequently leave it in the car - and check it all of the time.
It was just the new toy aspect and the novelty of constant contact from clients soon wore off. He is now much better at ignoring it on family time. Most of the conversations I hear people having in public do not seem to be very urgent. The teen girls talking at top volume as they shop seem to believe they are on a reality TV show and that the world is their audience. One other technology overuse I see is caregivers with very young children chattering away on cell phones and ignoring their charges. I often wonder how much inappropriate information the little ears are hearing. |

I'm more concerned with the distracted driver operating a 4,000 lb.vehicle. I've lost count of how many times I've nearly been tagged by distracted drivers. I remember in the 70's they had a motto "Drive Defensively", it's more appropriate now. Yes, I agree. The talking and driving is very bad. I point out to our young drivers, when we see other drivers are on the phone, that they need to be extra aware as that person is not totally focussed on the task of driving.
When we see people at stops with one hand to their ear with the phone and the other with a cigarette or coffee cup in it, we wager on which item the driver will put down to grab the wheel and go. You'd be surprised to see how often it is neither. |

Best invention ever and worst invention ever.
Best because I rarely need to be in the office to conduct business. Worse because when out of the office, there is an expectation of an immediate reply. "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

I am at the end of my TMobile contract for the Blackberry.
What is your preference: TMobile Wing or an IPhone? I do a lot of email reply and texting. Ronald M. Kas |

The AT&T media package for the iPhone includes unlimited internet and texting - $20/mo. I read a much, much faster wireless capabilities model is coming out in the next few months. We also use the iPhone for navigation/maps when in a car that doesn't have navigation.

The I-Phone, although totally cool, is totally garbage for individuals who send a ton of emails. It is near impossible to accurately hit the numbers/letters without the raised keypad on a consistent basis. "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

I have the Samsung Blackjack with AT&T plan. I really like it though I admit I never text or send e-mail....though I could and it seems pretty easy to use for such things. I got it so I can keep my calendar on my phone.

If you sent lots of email I still think the Blackberry is best.
I have the 8830 (CDMA & GSM phone) by Verizon and I get great reception almost all the time. There are a couple spots in Wisconsin and one in Brasil, but other than that... Perfect. If you have fat fingers, the 8830 might not be the best. The wife and kids loved the 6 weeks I was without a Blackberry. They don't call it a Crackberry for nothing! |

I agree 110%. RIM knows what they are doing. Decent phone, great e-mail interface. If you send a lot of e-mails, get one with the full QWERTY keyboard. I replaced my old Blackberry with a Pearl and took it back a week later and got the 8820 (AT&T). I just couldn't get a handle on their "word completion" software. I'm not saying it didn't work, I just didn't like having random letters not turn into words on my screen until I had typed the last letter. |

Disconnected that word recognition function on the Pearl. It was fine after that. Screen is too small to read pdf documents Ronald M. Kas |

Hmm wonder where they got the idea for that one?? Right after I posted my 8830 works great it crapped out on me. It was a little over a year old so Verizon replaced it with no problems. My new one had an advertisement on the internet home page for the new Blackberry Bold, looks a lot like the phone Half showed. |
