This could be one of the largest quakes ever.

Much to Japan's credit they spent untold amounts to plan for this day as they realized they live on the edge of the ring of fire. 100,000 plus lives were lost over a smaller earthquake in Japan in the 60's.

Still amazing such a catastrophe can happen in our brief human lifetime.

The Breun family story

I have known Andy Breun for a while through my vast connections at The Bike Shop. His wife took a two year stint in Japan teaching. I can only imagine what Andy has gone through since Friday . . . or what he is going through currently. Given the stories that were relayed to me, I can assure you that you most likely wouldn't want to experience what he is. Last I had heard on Sunday, he was making his way to Japan. He had contacted the U.S. Embassy and they told him that his family was in a shelter. They had no idea on their condition or well-being. Apparently, they have finally made contact with Patty.
