George Bryan Polivka, author of the Trophy Chase Trilogy, will be visiting John's Christian Store on Saturday, February 23, from 2 to 4. This "Meet the Author" session coincides with the publication of the final book of the trilogy, The Battle for Vast Dominion. The Legend of the Firefish and The Hand that Bears the Sword, the first two books in the series, were both released in 2007 and quickly gained both a loyal following and critical acclaim. “The story is fantasy adventure with a spiritual bent,” Polivka explains, “focusing on the adventures of a young man named Packer Throme who is expelled from seminary and decides to take up the sword and join up with pirates on a quest to hunt sea monsters. It’s a choice that doesn’t always work out well for him, and people seem to relate to that.” For further information on these swashbuckling stories, visit nearingvast.com Polivka was born and raised in the west suburbs living his first few years in Naperville and graduating from Kaneland High School in Maple Park. He now lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife and two children and is employed by Laureate Education, Inc., where he has pioneered the use of various technologies in the service of higher education. Previously, he was a television writer and producer, winning an Emmy for his documentary, "A Hard Road to Glory", which chronicled the positive social impact of high-profile African-American athletes throughout U.S. history. A recent reviewer said that The Legend of the Firefish “plunges you into the world of pirate ships, mighty sea monsters and good and evil, much like a J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy”. (Dianne Burnett, Christianbook.com). Another reviewer notes he “would rank Polivka's novel with the elite in Christian fantasy and sci-fi… I enjoyed it just as much as C.S. Lewis' Narnia.” (Brandon Barr, Christian Science Fiction). The reviews for The Hand that Bears the Sword have been equally stellar, leading to much anticipation around the third and final installment. Polivka will be available to sign books and chat from 2-4 Saturday, February 23 at John's Christian Store, 520 South Schmale Road, Carol Stream corner of Geneva Road in Dominick’s shopping center, 4th stop light south of Rt. 64. Please contact Nancy Polivka at Foxbourne@sbcglobal.net for questions or to book an interview with George Bryan Polivka. |
