Does anyone know if the 4 year old preschool program at Arborview School in District 89 is for children that are developmentally behind? We were told this last week and are unsure if this is the case.

Help?

This may be too late...but I posed your question at a PTC meeting last night. The response was that the District 89 four year old preschool program at Arbor View was not geared toward special needs children.

Thank you so much 4mp for the information. We called over to the school and the lady answering the phone did not know and she was going to have someone call us back and that last week.

Thanks again...

Glad to help! Expanding the answer just a little, there are sometimes special needs children integrated in the program. If special needs children are present, they have an aide present that works with that specific child. Although our kids are at Rainbow Place, we have heard good things about this program.

my son needs speech therapy and is going to be attending Arbor view for it when he turns 3. my understanding so far is that they have 1 small class with nothing but therapy kids...and a class with intergrated kids...they may also have a class with no therapy kids. He will only be attending 2 hours a day and will probably start in the small class.

hope this helps!

Is Arborview the only Pre-School for 89? Does anyone know how it compares to the Jefferson Pre-Schoool for district 200? I've heard very good things about the program there, and that therapists are on staff for speech, behavioral, etc.

Does anyone have advice or experience with the Arborview preK?

thanks in advance.

peace,

kevin

All area districts have ECE (Early childhood) programs in district with therapies. (I work in an ECE program in a feeder district) The biggest difference between 89 and 41 (and where I work) is that in 89 there is an inclusive program where typically developing students can pay tuition and be in the classes with children who have some developmental delays. In D41 there are only students with developmental delays in the ECE programs. I am not sure how Wheaton runs their ECE programs.
The eligibility criteria in all of the districts should be the same. The number of sections of ECE is dependent on the needs of the district- so some districts may need more programs if they identify more students. They do usually only run a certain number of programs (perhaps one morning and one afternoon) but occaionally have a student that they do not have room for in their programs so they are sent to another CASE district.

At risk preschool is a program that is offered to students at risk for academic failure- usually low income, bilingual, low educational background children benefit from these programs - in the district I work in the students must also not have needed pre academic skills- because we could not possibly house all of the of 3 and 4 year old students who come from the low SES households.. My district has a much lower SES than 41 and has a much bigger ELL population and we run 1am and 1 pm At risk program (one classroom). I think that D41 offers 2 classrooms and 4 sections. I am not sure how they get funding for it and I think it is a luxury to provide this program when space is an issue.

Easy Kevin. I don't know where you are going with this. IMJ...admittedly a fraternity boy and drinker....shouldn't have gone there (Bad IMJ, bad!!), but that is not the kind of response you want out there.

I don't believe anyone was seriously criticizing your wife. At least not what I read.

We'll all have a good laugh come Thursday about how badly everyone has acted throughout this community shamefest.

Mr. Spengel,

You've done a great job of defending the GrowingD41 position, my hats off to you, and as I've said before I respect you and your lovely brides commitment and sincerity.

You are an asset to the community and even though we may disagree on this referendum I truly do appreciate the time you have given freely to better our lives in this Village, but I don't believe that IMJ meant any genuine disrespect.

I'd encourage you to reconsider your interpretation, things are not always as they appear in a textual world without human cues and context.

Well....to his defense....I know a lot of people that go to St. James because they find it to be more of a church than a social status indicator. More power to them, I say.

Plus, he aways wears orange and blue......I drive by his place on Friday night, about 10pm, there he sits in front of his computer, with his orange illini shirt.....Do you think his clients mind when he wears the orange tie and blue blazer to court?

Boy, if that's not one of our dark little secrets. I know far more people than one would expect within the parish that really do attend church outside St. Pet's. They don't feel welcome.

Too funny! Fanette used to constantly pick on me because of my orange and blue wardrobe. Now she has just learned to accept it.

Clam - that was you who posted the picture and you know it. Stupid liar.

You lie quite a bit. I never hold it against you because I just assume it is part of your vocation.

We have all known for quite some time that IMJ is a much, much more horrible person than even GE Fan. I'm sorry you had to find out the hard way, Kevin.

Stop posting about me and stop calling me at work!

The Fans are great people as well and I am offended by your hostile and abusive words.

You are going to hell....straight to hell.

[I removed my posts linking IMJ's hurtful words as well]
