I drive past the Lacrosse practice field on the way home kids look like they're having fun moving around. I also drive by the Baseball field the kids for the most part look bored out of their mind. One of my neighbors whose son played on the GW baseball team and he says that unless you're kid is really good you don't play . Same thing for basketball.
So you have 10 kids who play every inning of every game and ten other kids who are bench warmers, groundskeepers. So my advice is to keep LaCrosse a club sport where it doesn't fall into the hands of the Winning is everything mentality of The GW athletic department.
Compared to my high school experience, Glenbard West hasn't struck me as having a "winning is everything" approach. For example, a number of coaches encourage kids to play other sports. They're OK with kids who don't focus on a single sport throughout the year.
I have a couple of neighbors who are on the LaCrosse team and they both love it. I have a couple of others who are on the baseball team and they both explain it like this basically on the Baseball team at most twelve kids play game in game out. The other kids are there so that they the rest of the team are'nt out till ten PM every night doing groundskeeper work. The same with hoops from another kid as well unless you're a starter you're going to get splinters in your ***.
I used to wish my kids where a little more athletic but seeing kids go to 5:00 AM baseball practice to sit on the bench for eight weeks makes me glad they're not. So why waste your kids time. So next year when baseball tryouts start not going to encourage him to sign up.
Oh yeah difference once the kids start in HS. Don't even bother talking to the coaches. They want nothing to do with you. Yeah so find some club teams and stay with them.
