I am not certain what Carl and the rest of the Good Neighbors hope to achieve by continually ramming this issue down our throats. The Repkings have done an admirable job of sprucing up that property and the whole village owes them a thank you . . . not a lawsuit. Breaking the village and the Repkings does no one any good. (I guess the Good Neighbors do not realize that we have a pricey new downtown organization to fund )

I'll simply state what I've said before, I have no objection to these people seeking recourse through the courts for whatever wrong the perceive. Nor do I have any objection to any of you expressing your opinions about this. Further, based on my personal experience, I have no difficulty believing that our vilage might have acted in a manner not entirely aboveboard and in compliance with the law in matters involving zoning, variances, permitting, and such.
HG is correct...they are back...if you used they're, will the sentence still make sense if you replace it with they are? If so, you're on the right track!
Fan, I must disagree....there are PLENTY of people who want to volunteer their time in this village. There's a whole column based on just that (also seen on the GE Patch).
I was quite surprised to see the group actually SUING the village, though. That is DEFINITELY not the way to get things solved and is CLEARLY a not-so-veiled attempt to rid the neighborhood of a minority's problem. It's very juvenile and sad, honestly.

First the issue was "look at this poor minister and congregation being forced out of their church by an absentee landlord." Then the issue was all about safety, increased traffic and potential for accidents in the area of the proposed school. Next, it seemed there were easement issues causing a huge ruckus. I believe there was also a brief controversy over toxic substances being deposited in a Dumpster. Now it is about some findings by a newly formed commission that something did or didn't occur in the planning and permit the way it was supposed to?
What relief is the GN gang seeking? I don't understand what they are after. What are their damages?
I believe their damages are that they don't want the school there, period. It sounds to me like they just plain need something to whine about, honestly.

As a homeowner in GE, I'd like to thank the school for sprucing up that corner, for keeping their long-established school in GE, and to the Village for making sure the school was able to stay in GE. Phooey on the Good Neighbors.
How does that work - when they lose, again, do they ever have to pony up to pay the Village's legal fees? Honestly, I hope they all end up selling their homes to pay for these idiotic law suits.

I have known people in my life that would rather continue to be miserable than admit they were wrong about something. From the outside, that is how this appears to me. Like GEmom2 stated, this started out as a fight about entirely different issues...none of which seemed to pan out. Just curious, how long have those signs been in the "neighbors" yards? Talk about unsightly, they are getting old and weathered-might even be bringing their property values down!
(also-I corrected the "they're" in subject line after it was pointed out-so Clamato was right that it was incorrect initially-just wanted to clarify because I saw a reference to it in this thread).
Couldn't a little school like that be a selling point? If I had young kids that I need to leave in some kind of day care while I worked, I'd see that school as a positive. From what I've seen, the grounds look very well maintained.
"Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. A farmer doesn't bother telling a pig his breath smells like s***."
I agree that school would be a selling point to any well-educated, affluent young parents (and they're still around in the area) - but those creepy yard signs in front of many of the homes around there wouldn't exactly thrill me. Who wants to live around such sour folks?

Pretty impressive legalese there, counsellor.
I'm curious what courts you have practiced in where a statement such as "based on my personal experience, I have no difficulty believing that our vilage might have acted in a manner not entirely aboveboard and in compliance with the law in matters involving zoning, variances, permitting, and such." would be found to come anywhere near actionable defamation.
I'm sure I am the only person who can come up with a single instance in which I think that components of our dear village have operated in a less than reputable manner...
I never cared too strongly about this issue, and currently care even less. And I personally think the neighbors should have given up a long time ago. On one particular instance that I thought the village was screwing my neighborhood contrary to its own ordinances, I determined the point at which I felt the issue had been decided, and concluded that it was not worth my while to continue the fight. But I have no objection to these folk pursuing their interests through the courts as long as the courts permit them and as long as their wallets hold out.
Hello Dinsdale, thank you for taking my call. You may or may not know the answer to this question, but what do the GNs hope to achieve with this ongoing money drain for both sides? What do they want done? Do they want the school closed? An apology from the village? Cash from the village for a new Windstar? What? What do they want?
I am hopeful that their goal is not to simply fill the pockets of Steve Ruffalo and Stewie Diamond.
