While I am hardly as magnanimous as you, Sox Fan, I can assure you that I am far, far, far from perfect as you so generously contend. But I thank you for your compliment, nonetheless. Unfortunately, it is human nature to express displeasure on a job poorly done. Always has been, always will be. Is it wrong to point out the shortcomings of a government that collects your tax dollars? I don't think so. Has there been piling on? Perhaps. Do we need to move on? Of course.

My biggest concern right now is the condition of your wine collection...especially after hearing what was in your basement compliments of the village. Also...thank the Sox for the charity and generosity that they showed my BoSox this past weekend. It was just what they needed. Big Grin

my point was, you accused me of making accusations when my points were all based on what I saw and in no way accusing anyone in general of doing or not doing anything.

Amy: I called the Village Public Works Manager specifically about what you are talking about at 8:30 this morning. I hope it works...Let me know if it did, if not, I will put on my list of things for the September 10th village Board meeting.

Clam, my wine was fine during "pooville" gate. We had a wine frig in the kitchen, and is sealed from the elements. It was all good, nicely sealed away from the stench. You have an open invitation to stop by and partake in a glass or 3, along with the rest of this joint.

And seriously, next extended power outage, I expect to see all of you over for margars and colada's, right after you talk to the village of course!

Just one point I want to make. After a storm like we had last week most people weren't focusing on going to a Village Board meeting which was taking place 24 hours after getting power they were cleaning out refridgerators of rotten smelly food and trying to disinfect them so they could be used again.

I know a large number of residents who will be attending the next Board Meeting unless the Village sets up a seperate meeting with the storm response being the only topic.

Also, I will not just sit back and complain but have already spoken with one trustee about helping the village not make the same mistakes again.

Finally, I am working to get some more qualified residents to run for Village Trustees during the next election...

So you haven't heard the last from me.

kickass!

I spoke with a woman in Public Works. She said the crews are out today and tomorrow and she knows that the director indicated that Western and some of the other major arteries are priority in getting cleared. She said that they are still dealing with some emergency situation as well. I told her I understood - I know they have a lot of work but I wanted to be sure they knew how dangerous it is to pull out of driveways...she agreed that most drivers probably aren't thinking of that. Anyway, hopefully by tomorrow at the latest for the busier streets! (fingers crossed)

Alright. My apologies. I must have misinterpreted these words.

quote:
I would expect the people that had problems to talk to them about what happened and how to approve it the next time. I expected by past calculations that there better have been a few hundred people at that meeting, especially the ones on this BB bitchin.

I think people that sit there and bitch and complain when they had no problems just based on hear-say and rumors is wrong.

quote:
Go directly to the source, don't go to a BB and never show up at a village meeting or call them.

Again, my apologies.

Now - time to start the healing process.

My reply: I expected. I have no idea who was there, didn't see it and until I actually talk to someone that was there, I would not know. so I would be expecting. I hope they did. I actually should have said "called the village" as well instead of saying just going to the meeting. My mistake there, apologies to all on that one.

My reply: statement, not accusing anyone. Just a blanket statement saying if someone was doing this, it is wrong. Was I going at anyone in general? I don't think so.

My reply: Once again, this is common sense and a statement not pointed at anyone in general. No accusations at all to anyone in particular.

Here's the lowdown on the response in Villa Park:

http://members.aol.com/lombardian/vpnews0735a.html

Did anything resembling this happen in Glen Ellyn?

Villa Park was on the ball 10 *minutes* after the storm hit.

I'm telling you, I know for a fact, I own exclusive property in Villa Park...those MFers were on the ball. Period. Went out there Friday, Saturday and Sunday...a veritable beehive of activity. They weren't waiting around waiting for some stupid utility to spring into action...stupid ComEd.

It's not how you handle it...it's how you report that you handled it. If the Village President is on top of things and is quoted before all the negativity hits the fan...then the village must be doing a good job. At the very least, the village needs a marketing guru to give them a better image and teach the powers that be to put themselves out there in this type of situation.

We are bickering about nothing apparently. Glen Ellyn's own newspaper, the Sun found this event only important enough to make page 4 with a little note on the front page. On the other hand, the war on terror is a much bigger, more deserving front page spread this week than a few downed trees and power outages. 6700 hundred residents in the town the paper is named after can't make the front page but a photo of a Lombard Army Supply store is there instead. Go figure. And of course, and advertisement of a buffed guy and gal. The article was pretty worthless as well, adding maybe one or two facts or quotes we haven't seen elsewhere.

And they didn't use a good photo either when they were offered much better ones.

The Cell tower deal made page 19.

Did anyone watch the National Geographic special, Inside Katrina or Katrina timeline? Interesting stuff. It was actually on about an hour after our power came back on.

Jerry Moore thinks it's his own little NY Times. It and the Sun should be printed on toilet paper so they could be of some use.

I am not going to let the Glen Ellyn News deter me from making sure the Village has a working disaster plan. In fact I am thinking about canvasing the area to get people to the September 10th board meeting. I know a lot of people think this is bickering but it's about safety of our residents. We can't be a premiere community in the western suburbs unless we act like one.

The bickering statement was a joke. Just like the Glen Ellyn Sun is.

Go get 'em W.O.O!

I recently heard about a citizens emergency response group locally and then found this.

Work was being done this afternoon on Western Avenue and it seems to be clear of the debris.
