I can pull out of my driveway safely again! Yay to the village - twice in one day!

BTW, I knew about Citizen Corps but thought they were a county thing, not Glen Ellyn...I'll have to check into it.

The top of our big maple tree on our corner toppled into the intersection, blocking both streets. Mrs. '58 called the Village about it right after the 1st wave of the storm passed (luckily we had phone and power still up).

On Friday morning, the crew came, cut it up and ground it into oblivion. So we got lucky, even though our poor parkway tree suffered damage.

To Woman On Oak:
I was not able to attend the Village Board meeting because we were staying with family in the far northern suburbs. However, I would be more than happy to help you keep this issue on the radar. Feel free to click my profile to email me.

Thanks!

I decided to set up an email to get other's comments and input on the village's reaction to the storm. If individuals want to get in touch with me please send emails to gestorm07@hotmail.com. You can always post items on the message board but I would like to get to know those who would like the village to make changes... I know how there is strength in numbers through other things I have done in my life and realize I need eveyone's help if we are going to get changes.

Remember you can reach me directly on gestorm07@hotmail.com

Dear WomanOnOak: I saw you on TV. I agree. It was amatuer hour in GE during the power outage. Never saw any trucks until I and OTHERS started harassing Com Ed starting at Sunday morning around 7:00 am. I told Com Ed, GE is surely some of their best paying customers and deserve better.

A FOI is coming to uncover some facts here. I'll tell you what we find, if anything.

Now, if they will remove all the limbs on our parkway...I'm about to call because it's treacherous to pull out of our driveway. People don't seem to slow down on Western when they are approaching the areas that have so many limbs we can't see over them! I would think that Main, Western, Geneva, and even Oak would be high on the priority list because of the high volume of traffic. This happens in the winter too after a heavy snow, but in the winter there are so many hours of darkness, I can see headlights and know a car is coming. Also, people tend to drive a little slower because the roads are more slick. Anyway, I'm going to call now.

I was curious about that...have they announced a special tree pickup? or are we on the same schedule (2nd monday north of hill/ 3rd monday south of hill)

I never received any announcement or information that there would be a special pickup...I just assumed they had no choice given the vast quantity of brush along the roadsides.

Amy the only way that I found out about the branch pick up was by driving through downtown and I saw it on the Village sign. My new route to my "unpiad day job" puts me at an advantage to most other Southsiders, and gives me a reason I have to drive thru downtown.

That's right the Village put the announcement of the branch pick up on the marque in town. I told the Village Manager a lot of residents don't even look at it and he agreed with me that it isn't always the best way to announce things. They also put it up on the website (not sure what day as I didn't have power). They then finally announced it at the board meeting on Monday night. Not much help there since they wanted everything on the parkway by 7am on Tuesday.... I can't just complain since my block of oak was picked up first thing on Tuesday AM.

I found out what it means to be in a State Disaster area... nothing for the individual residents but it could have meant something for the Village. The village could have contacted the local IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Authority) and they would have directed the village to state or county agenecies that could have helped. Getting reimbursement for costs to the Village only occur if we are declared a federal disaster area which I don't think will happen. Once again if the Village would have been more on top of it we might have been able to get some help from the State.

We had our pile of branches out on the curb since Sunday and the Village crew got to them yesterday morning (Friday).

If you still have branches out don't worry I saw a number of Kramer tree trucks out picking up stuff this morning while I was on my daily walk. Now we will have to see what the village does to with the most damaged parkways.

Just saw the next Village board Meeting adgenda was posted on the Web Site... It states in the audience participation area that there will be a presentation by Com Ed. I would encourage that anyone who had a problem with how long it took to restore power or anyone who has any issues with Com Ed's response to attend this meeting. If people don't attend and ask the hard questions to both the Village Board and Com Ed the same thing will happen the next time a big storm blows through Glen Ellyn.

Well here we go again... I was having a nice day at work when my contractor called me to say... we lost power again.... Big Surprise.... I was able to see that the Fire department was called out regarding 3 different issues in the area. When I reported the outage to ComEd they stated they didn't know anything about it... What a lie.... I finally was able to speak with someone after calling the Excelon number and being transferred but they were no help... They couldn't tell me anything about why the power is out yet again.... I'm so happy the ComEd will be at the village Board meeting on Monday evening and I hope a large amount of residents will be there to make ComEd answer why this keeps happening.

We were in the middle of our continuing flooring project when it rained a bit and the power went off. I said, "OH, of course, it rained a little and we live in Glen Ellyn so the power is off again! Very frustrating and put a stop to some of our work. The big storm, I could understand. THIS? It makes no sense! At least it was only 3 or so hours without power this time....still, if I can go to the meeting, I'd like to know why this seems to happen so often.

Just East of Kenilworth this evening, around 5 pm, there were atleast 5 ComEd trucks blocking off Oak. They were also doing a pretty good job of blocking Kenilworth at the same time. I couldn't tell what they were up to, but atleast they made it look like it was important.

Yes, the police were blocking Oak at Kenilworth too. Woman on Oak, do you know what was going on?
