After its approval in August 2007, T-Mobile’s 9 panel antennas are being installed today. Delays are rumored to be due to initial interference with DuComm (911), something the Village staff neglected to investigate until residents requested such; and AT&T/Verizon’s wish to remain causing negotiation over inside space. Even after assurances that all equipment will fit into the tower, a jungle gym of panels have been installed outside the stem on the south side. Also, the proposed and approved structure’s panels were be 2 ½ feet in height. The actual panels are 6 feet tall, and the height of the entire structure is almost 2 feet higher than the approved plans. Why even have hearings, and pass ordinances if the Village allows commercial entities to put up whatever it wants? Village employees were present at the installation and should have noticed the increase in height.

The antennae are finally working! For the first time ever, my daughter was able to call me from downtown. I know that everyone was not happy to see this happen but I am thankful that it was approved.

Good things come to those who wait....

I tend to agree that we needed better coverage in downtown GE but I also agree with DITG that what is passed is what happens! What's the point if things are not enforced?

What'snext - Please keep in mind the question was not whether to have an antennae or not in the downtown area, but ignoring an existing ordanances AND the concern of residences. There have been numerous examples of this kind of approach to Village business in the last few years.

And there will be a doozy coming up in the next few weeks. But that is neither here nor there.

Am I mistaken in my recollection that there was an alternate site for this project that was acceptable to T-Mobile, residents and the village...but it was ignored?
