The city council was scheduled to consider a controversial ordinance that would amend the city code to allow the city administrator to perform the police chief’s duties. The ordinance would open the door for City Administrator Bryon Vana to assume much of retiring Police Chief Robert Pavelchik’s role at the end of the month.

The draft of Vana’s new contract, which was also up for consideration and subsequently tabled Monday, includes a salary of $154,547, plus deferred compensation totaling 13 percent of his salary.

Vana is also one of the three final candidates for the village manager position in Glen Ellyn, where he lives. Glen Ellyn’s clerk’s office confirmed Monday that the village has not made a decision on the position.
But Vana said that he would not leave Darien’s administration for Glen Ellyn should the ordinance pass.
“It’s part of an overall agreement that I would stay in Darien and take this on if the city council should approve it,” he said after the meeting.

Maybe just me, but that sounds like such a huge conflict there...I would not be happy about a similar deal here in GE, and I'm thinking I'm not for a candidate that things combining both roles is a good idea. It would have to be explained to me very very carefully. Also, not real serious about the role here, is he?
If Darien is that darn quiet, maybe they don't need either role filled - just get Deputy Fife on the job.
And, no, Bensenville is not exactly an example of exemplary governmental leadership I would tend to point to, in general.

I've gotta tell ya'....this guy was not one of my favorites for the job.
And with his telling Darien that he wouldn't take GE if this other thing goes through....yeah, he's really not that committed to GE....not as committed as he made it seem at the town hall meeting.
Though Bensenville's done pretty good, I think that was since he left.
Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele
