Easy, big boy. What's the matter? Loud chewer extra loud today?

This past Sunday evening at the GE Dominicks was surreal...four cashiers open and lines going back to the liquor department. (For some reason customers qued in that direction...) Seems all of the spring break vacationers returned and needed chow for the week...to your point, the first and only time I have seen a Dominicks crowded in Glen Ellyn since it was located where Trader Joes presently operates...

Clam, you are 100% correct. I hate the Baker Hill Dominicks and the Jewel on Roosevelt. I am slowly losing all shopping options as I do the shopping for the family. I have resorted to going to the Dominicks at Danada, because at least they have more than one register open.

I usually go in the evenings around 4:30 or 5:00pm, and you should see the lines in Dominicks, and they refuse to open a register.....It is a customer service hell they put you in.....Sorry for the jack...

The Dominick's in Wheaton is a much nicer experience. There don't seem to be any liquor shoplifters, either. Never seen a cop over there.

They could demolish Baker Hill shopping center and turn it back into prairie and I would miss absolutely nothing. Nothing. Yes...including SARET. Stick with collecting donations, not sinking money into rent. Doofuses.

No, no, no. I like both Dragon One and Chicks 'n Salsa, so Baker Hill can't close.

I've never noticed excessively long lines at Dominick's. I like it there.

Sorry. It's coming down. First thing I'll do if elected to any office in this village.

I shop mostly in the Dominick's on Geneva Road. This is a nice store, and I regularly have employees providing extra services to me. For example, if I can't find some item on the shelf, someone will offer to go into the back and find it. If I ask about a new type of apple or orange, they will slice one up to sample. I also will ask for a new checkout line if there are more than a few people lined up - and they hop to it. I sometimes wonder if they think I'm a secret shopper or spy from Safeway's HQ. One of the checkers told me that over the holidays Safeway had a huge shrinkage problem with liquor and other beverages - that is why the new orange proof of purchase stickers are about four times larger than they used to be

I have never seen the cops on premises, but I did once see some teens behaving suspiciously and as I was shopping at the opposite end of the aisle, saw them stash a liquor bottle under their jacket and make a dash for the door. They made it, but only because I did not yell, "Stop, thief!" I was busy pointing them out to my kids and telling them that even though these boys thought they were acting so cool and casual, their intent was quite clear and they'd get caught sooner or later!

Does this mean that your hat will be in the ring shortly?

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

The Jewel on Roosevelt Rd is smelly, creepy and has the worst produce ever. I never go into ANY Jewel. I fear I'll get sick if I eat anything from that chain. Yuck! Also they YELLED at me when I first moved to IL. and tried to buy a bottle of wine in the regular checkout. Yes, I'm very sensitive and hold a grudge.

I shop at the Jewel on Roosevelt as my regular place for things I can't get at Costco, Trader Joe's, or McChesney. It's nicer than it used to be - they did a little "facelift".

I still say our cops need to be more "available" in the CBD....but I think my husband would very much get into the vigilante justice type of policing. Big Grin

I'm telling you that the homeless are OFF LIMITS. Unless its something life threatening, don't expect anyone to do anything. They know what's going on.

I've been doing some thinking. Yes, I have. It wouldn't shock me one bit if our CBD is being run into the ground on purpose. Based on Norton's attitude, it is my opinion that he's the type of guy who's SO stubborn that in some sick and demented sort of way he and Hase are collaboratively allowing this to happen with the disposition to irritate and thwart us BBers. We got nobody to thank but Clam!

BTW- I agree with Shore, Jewel sucks a$$!!!

The Ultra on Roosevelt Rd and County Farm is well worth the trip. Super clean, great prices, name brands, and always plenty of cashiers open. You have to bag your own groceries but bags are provided and sometimes if the cashiers aren't busy they will help. I used to shop at Jewel regularly but I barely go there anymore.

Sunday nights are notorious for being short on checkers. At least Jewel has the self check out lanes going for them...although the 'helper' is always having to step in:

Computerized voice: "please place your item in the bagging area"

Me: "I just did Mother F**(er!, I can't help it if you can't detect paper towels"

Yes, but he's very professional on the job. Though, as I've mentioned before, it takes a certain kind of person to be an ER doctor and not burn out....embracing a certain degree of schadenfreude is an essential survival technique.

But, at home? A WHOLE different story! You two would get along very well! Big Grin

Bitch was hassling commuters waiting for their train this morning.
Yep, nothing like a pattern any crack LEO could figure out.

Picked the wrong time to go to the library yesterday evening and was almost stampeded by the bums rushing out for their meal and cot.

Uh....I think that may have been someone collecting funds for a children's charity of some sort. They were in the city, too.

Observations after a wonderful week in Seabrook Island, SC:

Thursday 5:00 p.m. Geneva Road near Riford: The 6'6" walking man traveling from Lombard to Glen Ellyn for shelter night. Later, one of the twice weekly guests buying cigarettes at Malloy's with $4.25 in change. Must have just got paid. Cashier says to me: "at least it wasn't in pennies this time."

Friday 7:12 a.m. Dropping the adolescents off at Hadley String Orchestra practice, the parade forms walking south on Main to Roosevelt. Walking man, cigarette purchaser, and one other. Driving around the CBD, I missed the show at Park and Crescent, but no one could miss the congregation for the PACE 715 Bus at Forest and Crescent - both sides of the street. Likewise, you could not miss the two enormous people and their belongings in front of the fire station.

Now, who says they are not residents of this town? They stay twice a week at night, and many stay during the day. They just don't pay rent.

I remember when Preserve41 gave away coffee before last year's referendum. We were warned to stay away from Monday and Friday. That's shelter day in the train station. We let GrowingD41 have Friday. They could afford it.
