Thanks for the correction, still - if everything else is fair it does indicate how truly difficult it is for anyone to really follow along and try to stay up on Village government.

Now that I would agree with. I consider myself very informed...and more often than not, I'm left thinking - "when the hell did that happen?" and "who the hell authorized that?" "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

On the agenda for the Monday, June 9th 8:00pm Village Board Meeting:
7. Ordinance No. --, an Ordinance Granting Exterior Appearance Approval for Bells and Whistles Snackery to be Located at 405 Main Street. Building and Zoning Official Joe Kvapil will present information on the request of Tracey Kreiling, owner of Bells and Whistles Snackery to be located at 405 Main Street, for exterior appearance approval of proposed modifications to the south building façade. The subject property is located at the northeast corner of Main Street and Hillside Avenue in the C5A Central Business District, Central Retail Core Sub-district. The Architectural Review Commission reviewed the request at a public meeting on May 14, 2008 and voted 8-0 to recommend approval of the request subject to conditions. 8. Public Works Director Joe Caracci will present information on the construction of a detention facility and two soccer fields at Ackerman Park as part of the North Regional Stormwater Management Facility. In September 2007 the Village Board approved an agreement with the Glen Ellyn Park District for the design and construction of a stormwater basin near the Riford Road entrance into Ackerman Park to handle runoff generated from areas primarily in the Stacy (Five) Corners area, including Park District and commercial properties. The project design was performed by A McGurr, Ltd. and has been reviewed by the Park District, with final bidding documents produced in May 2008. Bids were received on June 5 for the project with --- submitting the lowest of --- contractors. bid of just under $------- was about --- the engineer’s estimate of $265,000. Reference checks and discussions with ---- confirm that the low bid contractor is capable of constructing the project in accordance with the contract documents. Project work will be underway this summer with all activities slated to be completed by the end of September 2008. To provide the necessary construction oversight services for North Regional Basin project, staff is recommending continuing the ongoing consulting engineer association with A McGurr, Ltd. In the person of Bill McGurr, the firm has been involved to date on all aspects of the project, including conceptual design and detailed engineering, and we feel the unique needs of this assignment are best met by retaining Mr. McGurr for this phase of the work. The firm will provide the required services including day-to-day construction job oversight, office support and material testing needs. For this assignment, it is recommended that A McGurr, Ltd. be retained to provide the needed construction phase engineering services in the amount of $----. A. Motion to approve award of a contract to -----for construction of the North Regional Stormwater Management Facility, in the amount of $ ---- ( including a -- percent contingency), to be expensed to the FY 08-09 Capital Projects Fund; and B. Motion to approve an engineering services agreement with A McGurr, Ltd. for construction engineering services associated with the North Regional Stormwater Management Facility Project, in a not-to-exceed amount of $ ----(including a 10-percent contingency), to be expensed to the FY 08-09 Capital Projects Fund |

Gotta love these f*ckers. No suggestion of any dispute, just full speed ahead. Pretty impressive display of self-righteousness. Even if they wanted to stick with their line of "It's been decided - you're too late!", you would think it might not be too much trouble for them to trot out the documentation of their careful and exhaustive decision-making that led to this point. I guess I'm silly to expect as much from my elected officials. |

This item was in the Save ackerman woods email I got today:
1. The GE Park District is holding a special meeting with Ackerman Woods on the agenda this Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center. At the last meeting, they refused to even discuss Ackerman, so this is a positive step. It is possible that they will save our woods at this meeting- so please come and show your support. |

I just checked the Village Board agenda again. Here is an updated item from what I posted before:
8. Motion to reject all bids received June 5, 2008 for the North Regional Stormwater Management Facility Project. Public Works Director Joe Caracci will present information on the recommendation to reject bids associated with the North Regional Stormwater Management Facility Project. Bids were received on June 5, 2008 for the construction of a stormwater detention basin and two soccer fields at Ackerman Park, 800 St. Charles Road. The apparent low bidder was Earthwerks Landscaping & Restoration of Carol Stream with a bid of $278,834 (approximately 6 percent over the engineer’s estimate of $262,300). Recent developments have resulted in the Park District requesting to amend the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) approved between the Park District and the Village on September 21, 2007. The Park District has decided to forego the construction of the two proposed soccer fields but to continue to allow the Village to utilize Ackerman Park as a location for the storm water facility. With the elimination of the proposed soccer fields from the design, the scope identified in the project bid documents is no longer appropriate. Staff recommends exercising the Villages right to reject all bids as specified in Item 10 of the Invitation to Bid. |
