I got my postcard today about the new recycling carts and couldn't be happier. I'm really hoping the lids help with blowing papers and cardboard boxes. And, I can't help it, I think it will look nicer, too.

I was glad to see there is a chance to trade in the 65 gallon bin for a smaller 35 gallon one. Not all of us contribute to the landfill like Clam does...

from left to right:

95 gal, 65 gal, 35 gal, current bin.

Will the same stuff be allowed in the cans? Will one still be able to place broken down corrugated boxes outside the can?

This is for recycling stuff-not landfill stuff. I think your confused. You need to stop putting out the small little rectangle and round bins for cans and paper. You can use them at your house for your personal use or bring them to the curb or turn into the village at a later date in the spring.

Sweet!
You know your life is slightly pathetic and lame when you get excited about this - don't you think? Big Grin (Um, I'm including myself in this category of pathetic and lame....)

I laughed so hard when we got our postcard, as a mere 5 days previous, Proud Hubby had splurged and bought a large rolling recycling bin for our casa. Total waste of money, can't take it back. Ah, timing.

I saw in the picture that there is a 95 gal cart. Can we get it? Otherwise we are thinking about getting a second 65 gal cart.

So, will the truly "green" households have the largest recycling containers and the smallest trash cans? Wink

That picture is from a different municipality. Our village has indicated you will receive a 65 gallon bin and can trade it in for a 35 gallon version at a later date. I don't see why they wouldn't have a 95 gal version available as well, but you will have to ask...

I am confused, if the Village wants us to be more green why are cans blue?

It would be cool and easier to tell apart, if they were blue or yellow. Blue appears to be it.

I saw these being dropped off south of Roosevelt last week. When are the rest of us north of Roosevelt scheduled for drop off?

Does all recycling now go into the single large cart?

Why do those punks get them first? We are way cooler up north.

I saw a pick up truck with a flatbed full of the new cans heading slowly down Western yesterday morning. When I looked toward the end of my drive, I had indeed received my Christmas gift I had asked for.

Is it wrong to be so excited over a large blue can? Big Grin

We got our holiday gift from the Village today as well. I'm so happy because a lazy person like me can now just grab the handles of both cans and roll them down and up the drive in one trip.

I checked the village website - they have added all the info about the carts, but they have not changed the section which says that recycling collection is unlimited - so by process of elimination, I believe you can still place things outside the containers with no stickers, etc.

Interestingly, if you are super-recyclers, the website says:
"At this time there is no cost for either an additional cart or a cart exchange. Starting in APRIL 2010, the Village will begin charging a $15 delivery fee for an additional cart or a cart exchange. 35 Gallon carts will most likely be available sometime in January 2010. This information will be updated as it developes. CLICK HERE to request an exchange or an additions (sic) recycling cart."
