JustAResident posted an announcement in the Upcoming Events area of a Civic Betterment Party public meeting on Monday night, but didn't offer any description of what the meeting will be about. Does anyone know what the agenda is or the topics of discussion?

It is a nomination committee meeting that is open to the public. The hope is to invite everyone in town to come and get acquainted with the Civic Betterment Party to understand exactly how it works and how to get involved. Village President Vicky Hase is scheduled to speak about the responsibilities involved with the positions of Village Trustee and Village President. Please try to make it.

1) Why would the CBP want to put the current President in front of a crowd as their rep?

2) Isn't there a Village Meeting that same night that starts 30 minutes later? Kind of short time frame if anyone wants to listen/ask questions.

The focus of this meeting is to bring attention to the CBP nominating process and how it works, technically each resident of Glen Ellyn is a member of the CBP and there are still a few positions on the nominating committee open and available. . Last weeks meeting had the President of the Library Board speak about what is involved and what to expect if you choose to run for Library Board. President Hase is invited to do the same about the Village Board. A half hour should be more than enough time for this as it is really an informative presentation not a forum to debate issues. The Village Trustees and President are always available to answer questions about the issues facing our Village at any board meeting or workshop. I hope you can make it.

Now that makes sense (having current President speak). Thanks. See you there.

I attended the first 30 minutes, which is when Vicky Hase spoke. The attendees were all nominating committee members, residents, commission members or EDC. Vicky took everyone through the paces of what to look for in a Trustee or President, time commitments and future issues that will need to be addressed by the new board.

I have notes, but need to put it together before posting.

Also, Dean Clark, President of the CBP, announced that they still have a few openings on the nominating committee. So anyone interested in helping to select our next 3 trustees and president, along with other positions, need to contact the CBP. If you are interested, and know someone in the party, please contact them. If you do not know anyone in the CBP, I would suggest calling the Village and ask to leave a message for Vicky or a trustee that you are looking for contact info for Dean. I do not want to put his phone number on this board without his permission.

Agreed. In my opinion, the CBP is a neat and efficient system when coupled with total community involvement....without it, it becomes a sham and needs to go.

As much as it pains me to say it, as it is a well meaning organization led by well meaning people, time has passed the civic betterment party by.

It needed to make a metamorphosis....and it did so too late.

It is my opinion that, if contested, every single CBP candidate will lose the election. There, I said it.

What if the CBP nominates the best candidates?

IMHO, Pete Ladesic won in the last election because he was the best candidate, not because he was a non-CBP nominee. The voters of Glen Ellyn seem to have the intelligence to make their choice based on qualifications, not label. Do others agree or is this assertion way off base?

Help me get that full Community Support! I am new to the CBP nominating committee this time around with several others. I am excited about this process and would encourage all Residents to get involved with it. I believe that all qualified candidates that present applications should make the Town Hall Meeting and if we exploit together every avenue of communication we can have record turnouts for voting. Working together we can have a nonpartisan Town Hall - Primary where neighbors nominate neighbors and can run for local office without the tremendous stresses involved or breaking the bank.

Given the direction that the village has taken during the Hase administration, I can almost assure you that there will be record turnout. If she succeeded in doing anything it is waking up the neighborhood that the selection system is flawed and that they need to pay attention to who they do or do not vote for. The definition of vetting can be found at www.m-w.com . I suggest that the CBP do a better job of it this time around or it could be their last hoorah.

I have never been able to figure out how people bypass or ignore local politics. The one chance they have to mold or change their daily existence and they blow it off. Idiots.

Good points. I think the CBP should focus less on selection and more on nomination. The BB, Go Downtown, Roatary, The Chamber etc. could help drive record voting. The residents should make the choice of all qualified candidates and there will be the credit or blame that we can all live with.

I was new to the CBP last time around. I shared the same enthusiasm as you appear to have. I called all of my long-time Glen Ellyn contacts asking for support. These people had plenty of money to spare and know their politics. Three of them said that they would write nominal checks but only because I was involved - however, other than that, they would provide no support as they swore off the CBP a long time ago...and that was never going to change.

Alex - I will allow you every opportunity to change that perception and as such, this will be my last post on the topic. Good luck doing what I determined was impossible and/or not worth my time commitment. I'll be there in December for the cookies. BTW - they have great cookies there.

Can someone please post the CVP web page link again? I'm too lazy to search for it.

www.CivicBetterment.com

This is the link to their website. But please do not be surprised if you find that it does not work. It has not been working or accessible for quite some time. There has to be a joke in there somewhere.

Alex....have them look into that.

Thanks, baby steps – as long as we move in a positive and transparent direction I will be happy. I will challenge myself to get you back on board the next time around.
