I was driving thru my neighborhood in S GE on Sat(recovering from seeing the train structure in downtown GE) and saw upwards of 15 red x's on trees. I know I could call the city but you guys always know whats happening. Did GE hire Paul Bunyon to chop down trees?

I noticed several as well the other day, on a street that had recently been redone. The trees did not appear unhealthy, or to be crowding utilities or other trees.

Don't talk to me about seemingly healthy trees being chopped down. How did all these trees die since the last trimming? I watched them take down the tree in front of my house expecting to see a hollow center or something when they were done. Nope.

Add us to the list of GE residents who find the Village's tree removal decisions very questionable. They took one of ours down only to later tell us no new parkway tree could be planted in its place. No wires above either. Also took them 1.25 years to come around to grind out the stump.

We have a tree with a red "x" and it is being torn down because of evidence of the Emerald Ash Borer....I suspect that's what all those red x's mean that you are seeing.

It would be best to actually ask the village why the X instead of complaining on the GEBB. Ash borer is spreading, and often elderly trees- though they can look healthy, are huge hazards. Their time is done. Unless you want major damage to your car and/or house as they slowly die and drop limbs over years- or just come down at once in a storm.
Lucky we live in a community that cares for trees.

Firewood is expensive! Maybe they are trying to supplement the budget?! Wink

I had tree large trees removed yesterday. 2 Red Oaks and One Hickory. I also had the rest of the trees trimmed up especially over the driveway.

What normally would have cost several thousand dollars to have done only cost me $800.00

Thanks Obama!!

The tree in the background was hit by lightning about 10 years ago. Blasted half of the side away, but didn't kill it. Seems to be healing up.

It is amazing how a tree can appear perfectly healthy on the outside and be hollowed out by carpenter ants or whatever.

Yes, Obama!

My trees are dropping as fast as his poll numbers!!

Actually now is the time to get repairs and stuff done if you have the cash. So many contractors are out of work, they'll do it for way less than normal. Just had a bathroom redone (tiled floors, walls, and fixtures for under $1K.) Last year I was quoted $3k.

Thanks again Obama!!! I am really starting to like this guy!

There is a resize option when you upload the picture to their website...typically it says, 640 x something, suitable for a message board. Pick that one next time instead of letting the native file dictate the size.

Still waiting for the picture of the train signal.

If anyone keeps firewood in or near your house, don't do it! Although it may appear "clean" many pieces are loaded with carpenter ants and other critters as discovered while splitting up this tree. One piece had a vein in it that was packed with ants, dormant yes, but ready to eat your house if given the opportunity!

Keep this stuff out in the back yard and only bring in what you plan to burn.

Not really complaining, just somewhat curious. Tho I am expert on neither trees nor bugs, the trees I saw seemed to be of a couple of different species, so they couldn't all be ashes. Any idea if the emerald ash borer is true to its name?

Okay since I started the thread... I found out that the village sent out letters to the lucky homeowners about cutting down weak trees. There was no mention of replacement.
