I went tonight though I had to leave before it was completely wrapped up. It was....interesting. I think they have their work cut out for them. So many opinions. Though, to be honest, there were defintely some key issues/ideas people agreed about. I didn't see any other BB folks there (except Candidate, of course). I hope all of you will stop by the drop in times tomorrow or Wednesday morning.

I was there too! I must say, I'm glad they are trying to do something.
We had to make a wish list (business we would like to see in town) Our group came up with some great ideas, however all of the ideas mentioned had already been in town (some for many years) and have since gone out of business for one reason or another. I'm not exactly sure what TBS has in mind for so many economically obsolete buildings. Do they realize that our CBD has to compete with Yorktown, Stratford, Walmart, The internet ect. ect. ect.? Parking (as usual) was a major concern with many on both sides of this issue. The presentation and execution of the meeting may have been useful, but I must say it wasn't a finely tuned, well oiled machine. Answers to some of my questions were vague at best. It may be a good idea for TBS to sit down with some (if not all) or at the very least, property owners with vacancy over 3 months to find out the who, whats and whys. P.S. Clam, you had help. I wasn't trying to keep it a secret, but I know you didn't figure it out on your own I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

I can't attend Yoss's party, unfortunately.
I wish I had known you were there...I may have even spoken to you without knowing it. Before we broke into groups to discuss/brainstorm/draw, did you ask about having a Q & A session after the groups met? Because that person asked a couple of questions that were very vaguely answered. I think Candidate means, "Not that bad after all," since you and I had a little "row" on the BB and you and I were the only two "regular" posters that were there. I was there too, although I don't consider myself a poster like you regulars. I thought the information provided in their presentation was much better than it had been, but the presentation itself was still a little boring. It was hard to pay attention when some of the info was repeated throughout.
From the beginning: Mr. Louthen had great energy, but spoke too long before the actual presentation. He repeated himself often, and told us what we would be hearing over the next hour. Aaron from Gruen Gruen was a nice surprise. I thought I would disagree with most of what he would say, and instead I was pleasently surprised. He had some great ideas, such as approaching the COD Culinary School (I think I have the name right) to participate in our Taste of Glen Ellyn, move their Art/Film Festival to our Theater, and a few other ideas. He also pushed more housing in the downtown. Parking: they need to refine their numbers. They lumped together the metra parking spaces as "public" and did not break out the number of permits for those lots vs extra spots for the public. Bauer Latoza: provided a nice map of downtown with buildings in color code of which ones are historical significance, adds character or under 50 years old. That was interesting to see. Also told us most buildings were built in the 1890 or 1920's eras. Stressed that most buildings were well maintained and did not need much work. Here is where I was a bit confused. I am hoping they were just talking about keeping the building to the historical significance, and not the actual maintenance of them. The Design Studio is open today from 9am-9pm and tomorrow from 9-12 at the empty store next to Costello's on Main Street. They are very open to hearing what you have to say. Wednesday night's closing meeting will be held at the same place. I hope you all can make it. |

The thing was so well advertised that I somehow missed it. I received a call from Mr. Ducar at about 6:30 but I had already committed to a very important meeting in town with Gus. |

I was very surprised that it was suggested (as a solution) to increase the density of people living in the immediate area.

Interesting article Clam.
I don't remember seeing any reporters there last night, I do however recall many of the TBS staff snapping many photos at the meeting. I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

There were 2 reporters that I know of. Hafsa from the Herald and Brian Hudson from GE News.

Has anyone gone to the "meeting" at the old Hallmark store? What are your thoughts?

It was kind of strange. She came from accross the room straight to me. I think I was one of the "young-ish" people in the room. My table was filled with mostly people who are 10-20 years older than me. I don't know why she came to me but she did. I kind of laughed thinking, "I'm going to get so much *hit for this on the BB."

You've crossed the line there, Clam. No one deserves such an insult. Almost fired a letter off to the editor after Walt's asinine "Olympics" letter. Thankfully, someone wrote most of what I wanted to write the following week. What a jackass, that guy. |
