Please make sure you send your donation check to the GEFD. The Fire Company survives almost entirely on donations. The village pays for the buildings and the fuel for the vehicles. You would be shocked to see the percentage of residents that contribute to the GEFD.
Next time you hear the sirens in the middle of the night remember the men and women of the GEFD are risking death & injury all for ONE DOLLAR a year. All they ask of you is a mere $95.00 per year. This was in the new Village of Glen Ellyn eNewsletter: Volunteer Fire Company Kicks Off Fund Drive Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company annual fund drive will begin in October. Donations made each year by Glen Ellyn residents and businesses help pay for firefighting and mechanical gear, vehicles and other life-saving equipment. To kick off the annual appeal, the Fire Company will hold an open house as part of Fire Prevention Week. The open houses will be on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the downtown fire station (Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue), and Monday, October 6, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at both the downtown fire station and the station located at 681 Taft Ave. For the fund drive, residents are asked to make a tax-deductible contribution of $95 per household and businesses are asked to contribute $190. Donations can be mailed to: Glen Ellyn Fire Administration, P.O. Box 460, Glen Ellyn, IL 60138, or dropped off at either fire station. This message has been edited. Last edited by: perplexed, |

We contributed every year. I remember when the firemark was first created in 1982. It was delivered by one of Glen Ellyn's firemen. Imagine our surprise when the firetruck pulled into the driveway. It was on our Glen Ellyn house for 25 years and now is displayed on our Northwoods home, just a little worse for wear.

You do know it may take a while for the fire truck to reach your cabin?

That's no joke. GE could probably get here as soon as the local one. Up until about 3 years ago, they'd never lost a foundation. Oops! Now they can't even say that.
You should be proud of Glen Ellyn's FD. We just have to make sure we have lots of insurance and fire extinguishers. And we don't burn candles. EVER. We have no hydrants. If there is a fire in the winter, they have to auger a hole in the ice to suck the water through the pumper. |

Oh come on people! This is important! Scotty and MRS. Arten are the only supporters? You realize that if the Volunteer FD folds, your taxes will go up between $600 & $800 per year!
Like my little fire hat guy? |
