I have been a resident of Glen Ellyn for ten years. This year I misplaced my vehicle sticker so when I park in the village, I put the receipt in the car window. I keep hoping the sticker will show up so I won't have to buy another one. Yesterday I parked in the train lot and found a $50.00 ticket on my window when I returned. I was diagnosed with cancer this year so I have been a bit flaky but I tried to show that I had paid for the sticker without having to get another one. My uncle is a lawyer and he said that if he were the judge, he would throw the case out of court. I certainly don't want to pay $300.00 in court fees for a $50.00 ticket. I did try to do the right thing and this is most discouraging. Any thoughts on this?
I recommend going into the police station (actually, calling might be better) to advise them of the situation.
I got one of those tickets one evening, parked in my parking lot. I HAD a sticker, but my window was fogged up and since I hadn't actually stuck it on the windshield, the ticketing officer couldn't see it. So I called the police station and they gave me the supervising officer's phone number. I left him a voicemail explaining the situation and advised him that even in the computer system it should show that I purchased one. He showed up at my apartment within a couple of days and advised me that he would cancel out (though I can't recall the technical terminology) the ticket and to just make sure that I put it in the window.
Maybe if you call and explain your situation, they'll "cancel" your ticket and issue you another sticker?
Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele
what Jombl said - I've found both the clerk's office and the police personnel to be very helpful and understanding, and to go out of their way to help a resident if they possibly can.
