Glen Ellyn names downtown panel

Interesting cross section.

Anyone have any insights on the participants?

I'm not sure I like how they went about finding the representation, basically picking a person from many of the Glen Ellyn non profit boards. It would have been nice to see more people picked who may bring a new perspective to the panel.

You would think in a somewhat affluent town like ours we could have gotten some primo business leaders from some major corporations on this team. Not a knock against those who were selected, but when your talking about a project of potentially large magnitude, it would be prudent to get business leaders who have experience in executing large scale projects.

Agreed 10000000%.

Meh, more of the same.

Who picked the slate?

Based on the current state (and future state) of downtown, having expertise in not-for-profit is appropriate!

The committee members are:
Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce board member Scott Hamer,
Economic Development Corporation President Jim Meyers,
Downtown Glen Ellyn Alliance board member Jessica Peckny,
Go Downtown! board member Beth Howley,
Plan commission member Linda Dykstra,
Architectural review committee member Ian Dickie,
Glen Ellyn Historical Society board member Dan Anderson,
Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation's Tim Loftus,
former village Trustee Pat Melady,
Alikat owner Sandy Moore,
Shannon's Irish Pub owner Jennifer Shannon,
Country Insurance owner Rob Kelley,
Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 Superintendent Ann Riebock and
Residents Rinda Allison and
Jean Kaczmareck.

I only know two of these people and they are both wonderful people.

However, I am a bit disappointed in this list. I ride the train every day and play golf with some hugely successful businessmen/women from Glen Ellyn. Businessmen/women who have grown some of the largest businesses in the State and who lead these businesses.

Why, oh why, can we not find these people to serve on a committee looking for a fresh new look, new creative ideas and out of the box thinking? Or are we not looking for "a fresh new look, new creative ideas and out of the box thinking?"

Fan: A bit disappointed? A bit?

I know several of these people and they are very good. I also see the largest contributor to the Super's failed referendum is on the committee.

Rinda Allison...hmmmm. Isn't she one of Vicky's close friends? Where have I heard that name before?

Ron:

My public criticism is always little less pointed as yours.

Dr. Riebock is on the committee...I take it TIFs are off the table.

Remember Dr. Riebock came to us from Highland Park. They have a really swell downtown. Also, she may be representing residents of the village living south of Roosevelt. Wink

Village President Vicky Hase made the final selections

I can only assume that this is why Clam did not make this list...or anyone on this board.

Was it not Deerfield? But the Highland Park thought is interesting. Let's make Lake Ellyn a Ravinia style auditorium! Clam can scalp his lawn parking like a Cubs fan. You just have to carry your car onto his lawn.

Which missive? I write so many missives that I've lost track.

I like saying missive.

The D41 4/19/06 press release said she was from Township High School District 113 which includes Highland Park and Deerfield high schools. So it must be true. Smile

I would hope so. I mean, a TIF is only going to shift more of the burden to residential taxes.
