I like the basic idea, but based on past experience regarding the Village's incestuous relationship with the Historical Society, and previous redevelopment screw-ups... I dunno. Time will tell, I guess.
I'm not sure anybody on the Board or in the Administration has the background or experience necessary to pull this off... but I remain eternally optimistic.
With luck, we'll finally get our VHS to DVD transfer service...

This organization was never mentioned in the article. Who are they. What do they do? When I googled "Preservationist" that link did not show up. Do you use a special google?
What's going on with the SW corner? There's orange fencing around it and some type of work is being done. Are they going forward with the historical park?

Sure Village....let's just follow the IL state way and continue spending....then crying about how we have no money. This sounds like TONS of fun....especially since we'll have control over our land. No money to do anything with it, but we can control it
I'm curious as to how large that lot is that it's reported asking price is more than $1.4 million....seems a little high for property with taxes still owed and potential EPA issues, no?

Clam, the article stated that the leaking tanks and damaged soil were removed....however, it also states, "The owners are also actively working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency on action plans to address any remaining issues at the site."
Perhaps it's just me, but if I was going to spend that kind of fundage on undeveloped property, I would want to make sure that any "remaining issues" were well past handled.
....and no need to reiterate, we all know you always agree with Fan.
Fan, under different circumstances I'd be inclined to agree with you. However, our village government has proven to make financial decisions based solely on personal agenda rather than the entire town....and our village government has also proven to underestimate costs, leading to budgeting and spending issues....sounds familiar.

Working with the EPA on remediated properties when they are changing hands is standard operating procedure. As mentioned, the property was cleaned up several years back and from what I understand . . . there are no issues.
I think Fan will agree with me.

Perhaps it's just me, but the term "remaining issues" kind of makes me think that there are some....it doesn't say "potential remaining issues" or anything like that....just seems like a(n) (sub-conscious?) indicator. Semantics, I guess.
For the record, everyone knows Fan would agree with you....he always does

As for the Sonic, Glellyn, I sincerely hope they don't place one there! Traffic at that corner sucks enough, something like that right at the corner would definitely not help that situation.

I live 2-1/2 blocks from Five Corners — put me down for a gas station as well. Nearest ones are on Roosevelt Road and North Avenue, both two miles away.
Maybe we could get a grant to include state-of-the art Hydrogen and/or battery charging/replacement facilities as part of it. The first in the region.
After all, in its time Stacy's Tavern was a state-on-the-art, cutting-edge leap forward in traveler services. The tradition would continue.
And what a tourist attraction it would be!

I stand corrected, I must've skipped right over that "any" there. I apologize and you're correct. I do, however, stand behind my statement about being certain that there are NO remaining issues and haven't been for some time. Just sayin'.
Btw, I think you've been spending too much time with your kids "wid' 'dem, yo"?? REALLY
