What is the real reason Steve Jones left the Village?

To seek out new opportunities.

Just look at the new village board. That should answer your question. Business as usual in GE, just a new clique of insiders. It's not a matter of if, just when, people will begin reminiscing about the good old days when Wark & Hase and their posse were running the show and how much better the village was.

I heard the Village (board?) would not give him a contract. He seemed like a quality individual to me.

Seemed like a dbag to me . . . but what do I know? One man's dbag is another man's quality individual.

In my experience Steve Jones held the Village front line employees to a much higher (legal) standard than the front line employees could figure out. He wanted Hulseburg fired and that's exactly waht should have happened based on my personal experience. The people below her...do we even want to go there?
Not sure if this chat forum can handle the truth. |

Awesomely fresh perspective, nut. We needed you around here two and a half years ago when this was news.
I will not go into my personal meetings with the man you so admire. I have always considered myself a good judge of character. Suffice it to say that Glen Ellyn was not the only town that Mr. Jones left in order to "explore new opportunities." He appears to be stuck in a revolving door of not being able to find a community that understands that he is a "quality individual." Certainly every one of those communities is messed up. Keep in mind that the elected officials that you, carnut, voted into office voted to not demote the Chief of Police. When asked if he should be demoted, they voted as follows: Trustee Michelle Thorsell NO Trustee Jim Comerford NO Trustee Pete Ladisec NO Trustee Tim Armstrong NO Trustee Peter Norton YES President Vicky Hase did not vote despite the community's cries for her to do so. She quietly stumbled out of the room . . . probably heading to the ladies room to clean up the mess she made. So only one trustee agreed with your assessment. Just Peter Norton voted to demote. But really, does anyone truly feel as though he knew what he was voting for? Best guess of what went through his head at the time was, "Does anyway want to order pizza from Barone's?" "Sausage, please." Given the vote results from our elected officials, seems they have confidence in the man. |

If this is so apparent then why did the Village hire him? |

Hate it when I agree with Bio but he does have a point.
Steve Jones mistake was to overstep his authority. Personally I thought his complaint against Chief Norton and Ms. Stulsberg was justified. The problem was that when it went public. Jones put the village in an embarrassing position. Since Norton had his followers and was fairly popular the whole thing became politicized and Jones was the loser . It was just a matter of time before he was gone . Why the village waited so long and so soon before the end of his contract can only be guessed at. The ethics resolution seems to want keep these matters in house. So, if you see an ethical violation you're supposed to report it. But then it goes on to demand that all of this be kept away from public view. So is the village interested in ethics or in keeping its dirty laundry out of sight. |

Tax . . . just what was the complaint against those two in your eyes? What established village rules did either of them break? I forget.

Stupidity. A lot of stupid things happened under Hayes' watch. Classic situation of the Peter Principle. She was elevated to a position that brought about her undoing. |
