Village Links Restaurant?

I'm curious what residents think about the restaurant at the Village Links golf property.

Do you think it's nice?
Do people go there when they are not golfing?
Is it attractive?
Does it add or detract from the overall golf experience?

Is it a good place to entertain clieto go for business/client golf?

Could it be improved and made more viable/how?

I'm referring specifically to the restaurant and hoping not to get off track into a discussion about getting a whole new clubhouse.

Do you think it's nice?
"Nice?" Not nice. Clean? Friendly? Competent? Sure.

Do people go there when they are not golfing?
I never have and I've lived here since it opened -- unless you consider going to The Links to golf and getting rained out.

Is it attractive?
It is nice enough for a dated coffee shop kind of 19th hole.

Does it add or detract from the overall golf experience?
Neither adds or detracts. It fits the image of a public course that offers value and no frills.

Is it a good place to entertain clients or to go for business/client golf?
For a beer and snack after the round but not to "entertain" clients. When I have entertained clients there and finished golf near dinner time, we have gone somewhere else for dinner. Not special enough to meet for lunch there before the round.

Could it be improved and made more viable/how?
Depends on the goal. If it is there to serve golfers, it is fine and could use minor menu updates to appeal to the before and after golf snacker. If it wants to be a place people visit to eat without golf, it has a long way to go before it is like any of the places in Arrowhead.

The Village Links restaurant has all the charm of a 1960's Howard Johnsons... but that's O.K. It is what it is... a fine place to grab a sammich when you're hot and grubby after 9 or 18.

I wouldn't try to impress either a client or a spouse with a special trip... BUT... if you're looking for a classy but rea$onable place to grab a bite in the middle of nature, may I suggest...

The Ginkgo Restaurant at Morton Arboretum. Lots of windows overlooking a very pleasant flora-and fauna visual environment. Nice menu and good food, too.

Good for clients and spouses. Smile

I'll second that.

When I worked in the area in the early 90's we would go there for lunch once or twice a month during warm weather. I think it's key to be seated on the patio. Perfectly suitable for a sandwich. Have only been there 1-2 times since, again for lunch, primarily because I don't golf and don't give the place much thought.

We just had our neighborhood dinner at the Links. In fact this is the second year in a row. The place is clean, food good, service great, and the price was at least half of other places.

It's not fancy, but its not threadbare either.

Third what Russ said.
I'd go for a burger, nachos, or fish fry, but my wife tends not to prefer that type of ffod on the rare occasions that we eat out.

Re: the Gingko Room, I farpreferred it before it was cafeteriatized a couple of years back.

I tend to like the low-key atmosphere at the Links. But when I see elaborate plans such as at Ackerman or the paddle courts, I wonder why the decision was made to not redo the Links a la Arrowhead. Of course, I would have issues with a pblic banquet facility such as that competing overmuch with private ventures...
