I was driving though LaGrange Saturday night and noticed that they have the same mini Washington monuments for street signs that we do. The difference though is that they have put nice reflective signs on theirs. Maybe its because I live south of Roosevelt Rd, but our street signs are listing and peeling. I called the village but it does not seem to be a priority. What gives with the stone monuments?
Originally put in during the Depression by the CWC or some other program, and we've maintained the color scheme, I think. However, I believe the village, when it repaints them, has been using a more reflective paint. I don't think the paint remains as vibrant as the reflective signage used by LaGrange or Park Ridge.

There are numerous obelisks in town that have exactly that type of reflective sign affixed - white background with green lettering. I have not figured out why some locations have been updated and not others, but the new street signs are far more visible at night.
I have also recently noticed that the Village has been replacing and adding a lot of other signage around town.

ISTR that a few years back the village acquired the ability to produce street signs in house, and established a program for updating and maintaining all signs in the village. (It is possible I am misremembering about Lombard, but I don't think I am.) No idea whether the original plans have been followed. The reflective street markers are a vast improvement.
The village does own and maintain the obelisk street signs. The street names on said monuments are being converted from being painted stenciled letters to reflective signs with the same color sceme as GEmom2 stated above. The order of replacement is determined by various factors - street replacement or repair, damage, wear and tear, need, etc. Eventually all of us in Glen Ellyn will have reflective signs mounted on concrete pillars marking our streets.
If you feel the sign on your street is in need of repair, please contact the village's Public Works department.
I happen to be in south Glen Ellyn yesterday traveling through to the Walgreen's. On our way back we drove to the end of Main back towards the Village Links property. While zig zagging our way back to Park, we found a no right turn onto Park between 4 and 8PM...since it was 8:20 we turned right onto Park. I cannot figure out for the life of me why a left turn would be permitted but not a right turn????? Can someone explain please???
How inconvenient for the residents and how unsafe for left turns. Why not just make it no exit. Why leave Taft open to right turns...I would think that would be the first residential street used to avoid traffic lights on Roosevelt.
Nope, you can just go down Pershing. That's why there is a stop sign on main going North and not going south. They are trying to direct traffic onto Pershing. Do it all the time.
