If there is anyone who hasn't been able to sign the Chamber of Commerce petition opposing the sales tax increase, and would still like to do so, there's now a petition online at ipetitions.com...

Yes nothing can be dumber than to raise taxes than during a severe economic recession.

To top it off it is not as if Government is providing any new or better services it is providing the same services. Has it has over the last twenty years. Yet we are being asked, well told that somehow we need to pay more.

Can anyone say that paying more for any of the services that government supplies has gotten any better.

We pay double what we used to on education has test scores doubled, graduation rates. Health care which under Obama will come under government control has not improved that much either. Life expectancy, infant mortality etc have all shown steady increase but nowhere near the amount we pay for it.

Look at GE. Our roads are a joke, the village can barely afford to lay down salt during the winter. So why should we continue to pay more for declining services.

I see on my teeny tiny cell phone bill, bare bones plan, GE still gets at least $2.75 per month. Now multiply that times how many cell phones are in this town that I'm sure have much more complex bills than me. Plus I'm sure my cable bill contributes to GE as well as my AT & T phone bill...Couldn't these franchise taxes be shifted somewhat?
