This morning I'm stopping by Einstein's when I see a man sitting just adjacent to the entrance puffing away. I'm fairly certain he is one of PADS over night guests. He's not more than 3 feet from the sign that states you cannot smoke within 15 of the entrance. I walk over to the Civic Center and request a police officer stop by and advise this person that he is in violation of a state ordinance. The dispatcher complies and within 5 minutes an offcer drives up. By this time, the smoker has hopped on his bike and if over by Gieshe's. I point him out and him heads over and pulls the guy over, gets out of the squad car and speaks with the offender.

I just want to thank the police for responding quickly & professionally.

Good job on your part. Tho the cops responded quickly and appropriately, I'm wondering how no cops managed to spot the violation, as it was occurring in such an out-of-the-way location so far from the police station. Roll Eyes

Getting off the train at 12:30 I appreciated that people were getting use out of the little bandshell in the park next to the prairie path. The guys lounging about with their luggage must have been a nice welcome to any bike riders pulling up for a drink. And the guy sacked out on his bedroll behind the bushes sure looked comfy.

My kind of town, GE is!

During the TOGE, there was a large, orange sign in the park announcing that it was forbidden to use after 4PM. So....I don't know where I am going with this.

I look every morning and unlike last year, I have not seen anyone camped out in PP Park as of yet. But then again, I don't look behind the bushes. Uh, Dins... what are you doing behind the bushes son? Eek

Based on my experience, I do believe the police have been more responsive to requests made and I do appreciate this very much.

Good job Yoss!

Personally, I would rather the GE Police spend their time enforcing speed limits on various residential streets and people that think stop signs are 'pause' signs.

Wink
The bushes in question were the ones right along the path. I got off the train and walked straight south across the lot, and entered the path right at the path where the water fountain is. The gentleman was reclining on the grass immediately to the left/east of the path. I continued through the park, past the bandshell, and into the parking lots of the buildings on the N side of Duane.

Dins, I was only kidding. But, your lenghty and very detailed explanation is now beginning to make me really wonder. Hmmmmm.... Razz

Just thought more of our residents might want to take advantage of this comfy looking spot for a nap. Cool

Maybe if your library opened sooner, I/we would have a place to stay. Shame on you! Open your hearts and look deep into your soul before criticizing the homeless.

Hi, Mr. Mooch!

By any chance, do you know where the Glen ellyn Civic Center is? They have bathrooms, a gymnasium, open rooms with tables, etc. The building is open 24/7.

Mr. Mooch-Let me remind you and you peeps, there is no smoking allowed within 15 feet of the entrance to a restuarant. Also please ask our other "guests" to use our lovely trash receptacles for their butts.

I love Glen Ellyn. Best town around. Nobody bothers me and I'm left alone.

Mr. Clamato, the problem with me using the Civic Center is that they do not offer internet service, do they? They also have nothing there for me to do. If I'm in the library, I can read, use the internet, talk to my pals and there is no pressure. Yes, Mr. Yossarian, we "vagrants" can read.

At least Mr. Dinsdale refrained from replying. Seems to be the only one among you who has an inch of class.

Yes siree, I really enjoy your town. It is very hospitable to the homeless. I look forward to being around all summer long.

God bless!

What do they call people who create a fake identity to try and piss off people about things on blogs and electronic bulletin boards??????
