We moved to Glen Ellyn for it's quaintness, shoppable downtown, socio-economic diversity, diversity in the age of residents and overall appeal. We did absolutely no research when we moved here and it was strictly an emotional decision. Not the way to buy a house, but that is what we did. Having lived in Glen Ellyn for only 14 years I can't speak for what the history is on this topic besides the last decade.(not that long to life long villagers). But I have seen a complete lack of visionary planning which includes ongoing intergovermental coordination and cooperation. The few times it has happened it was strictly a self serving moment (ie school gyms/park district) and not tied to any vision or long term plan. How much does this help anyone? From the Village Board which lacks any innovative thought process tied to development of the whole village to the Park District Board which consistently is self serving in it's facility development and usage, I am completely boggled. Any thoughts from those who have insight?

Good God, FOGE...those topics have driven this ultra-popular bulletin board for years.

Welcome aboard. Commence bitching along with the rest of us. It's always good to have another who doesn't see the Emperor's new clothes.

Welcome.

I'm far from insightful, but my perception over the past decade plus has been similar. I think one of the earliest incidents that formed my opinion was the umpteenth time D87 and the park district bought and sold each other slices of the park with the tennis courts just across Crescent from West. How many times did we taxpayer's buy that property?

Part of the problem is related to the inexcusable number of taxing governmental authorities in Illinois. But it does seem that in Glen Ellyn our various authorities take uncooperativeness to the higest levels possible. Hey - we're number one! Does that qualify me as a booster? Wink

Given our history Dins, I reserve the right to quote this at any given time without limitation. Razz

What part of "no" don't you understand?

I do think this is a frustration shared by all of us. It seems like all of the "governmental bodies" in town play hot potato and shuffle around their assets with no great sense of purpose other than to pay today's bill. Not innovative at all. I can't honestly tell you I have any great ideas at this point either but I'm also not trying to lead one of our governmental bodies. If our leaders have training and education in public policy and non-profit management, you'd think they would have some more innovative ideas! Wish I had the energy to put my brain to work on it but I've got a full time job that zaps my energy already! It's a great point to raise though.

With what you mentioned in your very first post, you, F.O.G.E., will fit in just fine here on the board. I can't wait until you really get rolling. Big Grin Welcome!
