Let's be really careful about who is to blame for this increase. The DuPage Water Commission buys the water from Chicago for 1.33 per unit (1000 gal) and currently sells it at a loss to the member communities for only 1.25 per unit. Glen Ellyn (before the new increase) sells it to us for 4.92 per unit PLUS an additional 4.30 per unit for sewer. So we pay over 7 times what Glen Ellyn pays for the water, the highest community rate in DuPage. Unicorporated Glen Ellyn pays 7.38 plus 4.52. During the years when the rate from the DuPage Water Commission fell from 1.95 to 1.65 to 1.45 to 1.25, we never saw a decrease, but the minute there is an increase mentioned (which will not actually happen until October), there is a rush to raise our rates even further, and blame it on Chicago.

Candidate, do you know if this is true, and if so, why?

Apparently, it's already gone up.

Our last month's water bill was up 35% for no reason. Used less water too. Very curious. Our neighbor's was up the same percent. Anyone else had such an increase?

Can we disconnect our sewer connection and just "go" in front of a starbucks or something like others in this community? It would really save on the bills in a month. Smile

The price of water went up? Ah . . . it's all clear to me now. I was frantically checking every toilet in the house for leaks.

3.5 like the article said? or 35%? That's a major jump. Like more than a 1/3. Mathwise, that's kinda steep for one month bill. All I can say is, wow! I hope nobody has a pool. I think I'll start showering every 4 days now instead of my 2. (JK)
