If the Village was contacted, who made the decision? I have attended all workshop meetings and board meetings for almost a year. I have never heard the board discuss purchasing the land.

Before calling for resignation, let's get the facts on how the process worked. There are other resignations I would like to see though. Smile

Crowds 'pick leaders to follow'

I'm posting this article because I think it's relevant to how TBS was selected. As Trustee Ladesic had pointed out early on in this process, there was a participant on the selection committee who may have biased the others, regardless of whether he as Stacy Hulesburg stated "spoke last" in every discussion.

Humans are also influenced by visual cues-anyone who has ever had a spouse/signifigant other knows what I'm talking about. If the others on the selection committee openly acknowleged this person as an expert, to the extent that they had him speak last, they had already established his influence before he uttered a word.

It's water under the bridge now as far as the selection of a consultant, but that is just one of the first in many steps of this process. I for one would like to participate in the town hall meetings and charette...oopps gotta go, my wife is giving me the "get off the computer look". Wink

Hmmm, do you have facts to support this? If so, share them.

I'm trying to understand the root concern here. Why is it relevant how Diamante came to know about the property?

Imagine for a moment that Believers had not contacted anyone directly, but had simply put a "for sale" sign out front of the church. Do you suppose the neighbors would have instantly banded together and put up $500k (an uneducated guess) to buy it? Most likely not.

Diamante's current location is 3 blocks away. How long would it have taken for the Repkings to see the sign and bid on it? I'm guessing about an hour.

THEN where would we be? Right where we are today.

--

Another way to look at it: If I own a property in Glen Ellyn and I want to sell it, are there any rules/laws about who I contact and how I try to sell it? Am I obligated to engage a realtor and advertise my intentions publicly? Am I obligated to tell my neighbors? (No, of course not.)

--

Another way to look at it: If Mr. Armstrong didn't represent the Repkings as their attorney, but heard about the property and told the school it was available, would the neighbors be any less upset with him? Nope. So this supposed "conflict of interest" argument is really superficial, isn't it?

--

Folks, this is a small town (and we like it that way, don't we?). A large fraction of the residents know each other. People communicate fluidly with each other on many different levels. This isn't Chicago (thank goodness!) where everyone is anonymous. You can't expect that people's paths won't cross in numerous ways.

I don't know Mr. Armstrong in any way. Never met him. Never heard his name before this came up. But he does contribute his time to help run the Village government, for (no? little?) pay, and probably a significant commitment of time and energy. I find it incredibly insulting and egregious that some people who (I presume) also don't know him have taken to accuse him on a WEBSITE of unethical conduct and even mentioned "resignation." You should be ashamed of yourselves.

To mirror my comments on the other strain about the school on this site: Have any of you fire-breathers actually spoken to Mr. Armstrong? Asked him about your perceived "conflict of interest?" (I bet I know the answer.) Don't you think someone owes him that out of the barest commmon decency?

Shame on you. Go live in Chicago if that's the way you want it.
