Friends of Ackerman Woods,

With the Park District decision last week to remove soccer fields from the construction plan at Ackerman, we have made great progress in convincing our elected officials of the need to preserve the woods for our community. Because of this action the Village has changed the agenda for their Monday night board meeting to reject all bids for construction.

However, we have learned that Village staff is still working a new plan for placing the stormwater facility in Ackerman Woods without the fields. We hope to hear from the Village board Monday that they will follow the Park District's lead in listening to our community. We need the Village to follow through and end any plans involving Ackerman Woods so that we can work with the Park District on a plan for permanent preservation and to improve the woods to make them a recreational resource that our community can begin using

Please come out to the Village Board Meeting on Monday, June 9 at 8pm in the Civic Center to support a move by the board to end this controversy and move forward.

Thank You,
Melissa and David Creech

The original plan for this location was so wrongheaded, I am thrilled to hear that it seems to be off the table. And the Creeches deserve tremendous praise for their efforts.

But I'm not sure I necessarily agree that there should be "no plans" involving Ackerman Woods. It seems to me that an intelligent and sensitive approach to that area might vastly improve the quality of life for a number of people, while being tailored to minimize the loss of trees involved.

I'm just thinking that opponents to the original plan might want to consider any new proposals on their own merits, instead of being kneejerk opposed to every plan that might involve the loss of a single tree.

I think the Melissa and David stated that the village should have no plans involving Ackerman Woods but that the Park District should be able to work with residents to develop recreational opportunities that can occur within Ackerman Woods.....

Fair enough.
But I have often had occasion to decry the lack of cooperation between our various taxing organizations.

Rumor has it, the new plan would be to remove the eye sore gas station at the corner and put the new strip mall there, keeping the detention area next to walgreens in place. this would kill 2 birds with one stone....

oh wait, that would be too easy and would make too much sense....

The Village Board meeting went as planned - to reject all bids and start over again in regard to development and stormwater retention. Melissa spoke, I spoke, a few other spoke urging them to drop the plan altogether if it means tearing down the woods and bringing road run-off into the woods. Undoubtedly I'll get quoted Roll Eyes even though I told the Trib writer that Melissa was the one to quote.

They also had a very sweet, somewhat emotional, and fitting tribute to Trustee Lee. I am a sap and had to wipe away a few tears....very classy and kind tribute on behalf of the Village Board.

I was unable to attend unfortunately.

Here is an article from the Daily Herald. One quote in the article made me laugh:

This is really a quote from the Daily Herald article:

"This is very unusual for us to do, but we're going to take a good look at what's best for the long-term interest of the village," President Vicky Hase said. "We'll be looking at additional sites the residents have suggested, costs to build on each site.

"This will be done so that the village board can make an honest appraisal for what's best in the long-term interest of the village."

It's unusual for the Village to take a good look at what's best for the long-term interest of the village? Did I read that right?

I've never really come out and said this before...though I have certainly eluded to it several times...but Vicky Hase is an idiot...an absolute I-D-I-O-T.

This quote needs to be everyone's signature here. Can we vote this as quote of the year? I seriously do not think we will see a better one than this. This is a top shelf quote. If you were to compare this quote to a wine, this is Petrus 1982 or Chateau Latour 1961.

Came out....not come out. Who is the idiot now? I am...that's who. But at least I can admit to my incompetence.
