Kudos to whoever (in Public Works, I presume) is overseeing the beautiful plantings in the CBD. They have been stunning this past summer.

In particular, does anyone know what that ornamental grass is that is planted at the entrance to the train lot that is W of Park and S of the tracks?

Three additional suggestions for potted plantings next year (if we haven't blown our salt budget this winter or Gypsy Moth spraying budget next spring Wink):

1) Main Street and Geneva -- on SE and SW Corners. It's ugly there, but plantings such as what is found downtown would help A LOT and a nice way for Glen Ellyn to welcome people towards the CBD.

2) Flower Box type plantings along Roosevelt Road Over 53. I realize it's probably IDOT/DuPage turf and therefore the process would be infested with "red tape" weeds. Daley had it done in Chicago -- why can't we? Sure would dress that spot up.

3) Taylor Underpass, South Side. There are two concrete "buttresses" that jut out. Couldn't you see two beautiful plantings on top of each buttress? Sure would make that long, "stuck on red" light more enjoyable.

There are probably lots of reasons why these locations are not possible -- but just thought I'd toss these ideas "out there".

I noticed that planter by the train lot the other day. I think it may be ornamental millet - best guess - Purple Majesty. Smile

Your can send your ideas to an anonymous recipient at the Village using this form.

Otherwise your kudos are wasted; the Village does not yet have public email... and they take a strange pride in their claim that no one there reads this message board. But then, as the quote of the month near the top of the Bulletin Board home page notes...
quote:
Overall, the work of rebuilding and transforming government for the digital age is only just beginning.... Governments remain organized according to political and bureaucratic imperatives, not according to what makes the most sense to citizens.”

I've noticed on many occations two ladies performing various work on horticulture throughout our CBD. Village workers (again public works?-unsure how the Village assigns it's workload) always. Good job!

Whoever is telling you that is lying to you. I can say with 100% certainty that this message board is read by most everyone on Duane.

Although the Village maintains some of the larger planted areas downtown -- most notably the horse trough and (I believe) the floral clock -- many of the smaller areas are maintained by volunteers from local garden clubs.
