The retailers in town hoping for a little positive exposure from today's Jazz Fest had better hope that our garbage pick up contractor makes a Saturday run. If not, the overflowing...and I mean OVERflowing cans in the CBD left unserviced could very well define Vicky Hase's presidency.

I am guessing that they will be cleaned up today...but why do they need to look like that in the first place? How can a village such as ours be unable to get its arms around such an easy, fixable problem?

It's Jazz. Don't worry too much about troves of guests ...

Hi,

As I drove through downtown the other day, I asked myself the same thing. The garbage cans were overflowing to the point where there was crap all over the ground near the cans. And this was GOING INTO the weekend. I don't think it is the responsibility of the business owners to take care of this. For whatever reason, the village just cannot seem to get their arms around this one.

To me, the solution just seems so simple, I find myself wondering if they are purposely ignoring it.

Note to our Village President and new Village Manager:
1. TRIPLE THE garbage pickup for our CDB, effective immediately.
2. Assign someone to take a nano-second and look to see if the cans are over-flowing.
3. Repeat. Daily. Increase the garbage pickup again if need be. See steps 1 and 2.
4. DO NOT say we can't afford it. Nobody will buy that argument considering the USELESS new fountain that now sits in front of village hall.

The situation is truly pathetic.

And-apparently we have enough village workers as Public works and other departments are not hiring at this time. And my family has applied several times in the past few years... -no dice!

Unless - we cannot afford the staff and we don't have enough people...?? I keep feeling like the saying 'we're broke' is reflected in a lot of projects, festivals and daily living.

It's hard to take pride in your community when your community leaders continue to ignore what's going on. Maybe they feel that since the community will clean up the CBD, they don't have to make the effort. Or perhaps the problem is not in their front yard and they can't see it. Wink Maybe it needs to be brought to their attention, or front yard or the next village meeting. It's a sad state of affairs.

Give the new Village Manager some time. I have a feeling he'll get it right.
