| this issue has plagued the village for more than 10 years. in the early '00's gary webster (former village manager who just died...great guy, RIP) got GE a meeting with the UP and local reps and pi**ed off citizens. actually, the situation has really abated in the past 3-4 years. (or i've gone deafer. not a word, i know...) anyway, keep calling that UP number, and the glen ellyn police. and, consider fighting your property taxes. this is a nuicence that didnt exist before 1996(the year that the UP bought the CNW and tripled the freight traffic) and is a real debbie downer on the property value of ALL these homes along the eastern strech of the prairie path in GE. and that poor woman who died in 97..RIP. i hope they took the UP TO THE CLEANERS. ps...metra can't really do anything. they are only a tenent of the railroad. 99% of the time if a train is late it's because of frieght traffic...so the metra general counsel really cant do much. UP= |

| I don't believe you can sue the train companies - it is private property and it is posted. She was trespassing.

| God....I hate to agree...but trains are rarely where they should not be unless they leave the tracks. I've drilled it into my kiddle's heads that those steel rails deserve their respect. Not to be afraid of them....but to stay the **** away from them. |

| Later that noon, much to my surprise, I received an email and a call from two top dogs in our Village about this. It was very refreshing, to say the least. Thanks to the both of you!
"Have you seen my box?"

| Since we all realize that hanging around railroad tracks is dangerous to your ears and well-being....why do you suppose anyone would suggest making the area next to what may be the busiest rail line in the country green space for families to chill and hang out? |

| This isn't very Christian, but that was a good chuckle.

| Tracks were most likely there before you moved in and will be there afterwards..... either deal with it or move on. |

GlenEllynite

| I am sure that would have solved all his issues.... |
