As much fun as this thread was, I have it on good authority that the tree don't cost no $42,000...as we suspected.

The biggest tree that Tree Classics has is only $12K. And, they're discounted after Christmas!

Regular price $100,000.....marked down to $35,000. That one would be really cool.

Upon return, the first thing I did today was to gather up all the sun-faded and rain-soaked GE News and Suns in my driveway and ruffle through the pages before placing them into the recycling bin. The XMAS Tree story jumped out at me. Not a Blackwater-level incident, but still a head spinner.
What if you add up all the items in the Twelve Days of Christmas song? Would they even get close to $42K? The tree must include those because no fake tree could cost $42K. Perhaps the $42K includes a new horse trough as well? And perhaps our village trustees and Ms. H. have gone completely nuts? Vicky, forget your d@m* fountain. Just order a $43,000 tree and waste all of our extra funds in one swoop. You deserve to go out in style. |

BTW....turns out (shockingly) that the reporter had indeed f'd up. Sadly, we are not getting a $42,000 tree. A tree, in hindsight, that we really deserve to have.

The 'tude notwithstanding, I'd still like to see a $42,000 Christmas tree, even if it was the reporter's mistake. Mind you, I wouldn't want the Village to actually spend that much, but to gaze upon the tree to end all trees would be a memorable experience for sure. Much like when Springfield got the monorail.
Hey, we still have that fountain to look forward to. And it will be a grand day. |

I can't believe that woman will settle for a $1,000 resin fountain.
Joe Wark built a monument to himself in the middle of town...complete with tacky-@ss advertisements set in stone. Advertisements for companies...some of whom must certainly be out of business at this point. How in the world is that lady gonna settle for something from Menard's that you and I could load into the Odyssey on any given Sunday? She just isn't trying hard enough. "If the cap fits, wear it." |

Perhaps the $42,000 includes a service/maintainance contract for the tree?

Clam was kidding...You know...basically saying anything the village does we will have issue with...We were peeved they were going to buy a 40k tree...but if the paper would have said they were buying a 4k tree we would have wondered why they were being so cheap...
Correct me if I am wrong Clam... |

Totally correct. But again, in hindsight, a $42K tree would absolutely kick @ss.

I know that "tree". I grew up near Indy. It doesn't look as nice during the day.... but I'd imagine the scale is about right for a $42,000 tree. I'm glad they had the price wrong but I sure hope the new tree isn't quite so cone-like.
