Good evening and FYI,
The Glen Ellyn police are currently investigating multiple power outages that have occurred with the past hour. There is a primary line down in the 600 block of Main Street causing a power disruption in the area. Additionally, a transformer on Lorraine Road appears to have been struck by lightning which is causing a large outage throughout the center of the village. That area appears to be from Hillside on the north and as far south as Greenfield. There is no information from ComEd as of this writing. Mark |

Thank you Mr. President. I will require a 7:00 am wake up call.
What part of "no" don't you understand? |

Good morning,
Two lightening strikes effected the power in our village last night. One on the 600 block of north Main Street and the other on Lorraine Road. As many as 2400 residences were without power at one point. ComEd responded quickly and most power was restored by 11 p.m. and the rest by 1 a.m., from what we have been told. Please report any residual outages to ComEd 1-800-Edison1 and any downed trees, etc. to the village 1.630.469.5000. Thank you, Mark P.S. Fish, I hope the call was appreciated. You sure are grumpy in the morning. |

The CLEA was restored with about 5 minutes to go in the game. Saw the gist of it. It pays to live among the rich. and since I only have 17 more days to live in a better house than Fan, I need to step it up.
Thanks for the update and all of your hard work Mr. President Mark Pfefferman. BTW, Duke's win vaulted me into first place and some dumped chump named M&M into second. What did I win? |

Thanks Mr. President
I was waiting all night, candles lit and all, for my power to go out....not once did it even flicker this time around. Usually at the first sign of lightning (or even high winds) ours goes for a few hours. I wonder if ComEd replaced some of their equipment in my neighborhood? Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |

This is going to sound ridiculous, and as an engineer I feel silly just for positing the question. But here goes:
Yesterday morning my wife's car wouldn't start. The radio won't turn on, but she does get some instrument lights and you can hear the fuel pump hum when the key goes into ON. But when you go to START you get nothing. No starter solenoid, no cranking, etc. She figured it was the battery. So I come home and read 12 Volts on the battery. I check out all the fuses associated with the starter and ignition system and they're all OK. I pull out the starter relay and jumper across the terminals and get the starter solenoid to activate and crank. But the car won't ignite and stay running. Bottom line is I can find no fault with the electrical system that's serviceable by the average Joe. But I can't get the starter to crank with the key. I've pretty much exhausted everything I can think of and the problem has to be in my Powertrain Control Module, which can refuse to ground the relay if it so desires, thereby not allowing me to start. So, here's the question: Has anyone ever heard of a PCM getting fried by an electrical storm? The strike noted by the Village Pres earlier in the thread is about two blocks away from me. I can't believe that a strike two blocks away could cause any problems, but it just seems too coincidental that I'm having apparent PCM problems the morning after a strong thunderstorm. Anyone know or had their car electronics fried by a storm? |

Did you consider the alternator?
Though with all the electricity that flows, I wouldn't put it past being a result of the strike.... Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |

Check the distributor as well.
I suppose the strike could have acted like a mini-emp as well. Perhaps the PCM doesn't have good shielding and took a hit. It's the spending, Stupid! |

DTM, I don't get how a distributor issue would prevent eh starter from cranking when I turn the key. I can't tell by the electrical diagrams how that would stop it. Unless it's a permissive in the PCM or something like that.
GESM2, the alternator failing would result in an empty battery, and I'm not having that issue. |

ah, true, I didn't catch that it wasn't even turning.
I assume you've replaced/checked all your fuses? It's the spending, Stupid! |

The battery wouldn't necessarily be completely drained if it was the alternator....depends on how long it had been an issue. The last time I had to replace my alternator, my battery was registering at full power until I actually got my truck started again....that's the only time the battery actually drained.
I also had a leak in my anti-freeze line on my old car that shorted out my alternator, but my battery was at full power even after the incident. Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |

Please be careful at intersections where stop lights are out and treat them as 4 way stops.
I came within inches of getting creamed by someone bombing through the intersection of St. Charles and Western. It's the spending, Stupid! |

Hello,
As many of you know, several hundred Glen Ellyn ComEd customers remain without power today. Several roads are blocked due to downed power lines or trees entwined with same, including Lorraine, Duane, Taylor at underpass (no power for signal) and N. Main Street. Police officers are out in the neighborhoods, as are Public Works crews. Should you see an unsafe situation, please call 911. Power restoration times remain uncertain according to ComEd. Please continue to call 1.800.Edison1 for further updates. Unfortunately, many local residents, businesses and charity events were effected by the sudden storm(s) last night and remain effected today. Fortunately, however, there have been no reports of injury or worse from these overwhelming acts of nature. Mark Mark Pfefferman |

Middle, I'm not sure the pcm would keep the radio from working. Don't forget the basics such as a bad ign switch. What kind of car is it? I'm assuming you can't crank start this one.

Speaking of being careful, two cars collided at the intersection of Western and Oak at 12:30ish am this morning...did you hear it Rob? We kept an eye on things via the window until the police arrived. Couldn't figure out who was going where to cause the accident but it was a pretty significant one. I'm sure the one car was un-driveable.

We are still without power. According to our friends at Com Ed we can maybe expect it around 11 pm Monday night. I have not seen any Com Ed trucks in our area but they claim they are working 16 hour shifts. Very frustrating. Luckily it hasn't been too hot.

Was talking with a village worker. He said ComEd had a number of hospital w/o power, a number of major transmission elements out, and GE's outages were on a list of 500+. Wow! I know that was a powerful storm, but it kinda amazes me that in this day and place that our power supply would appear to be so fragile.
Glad our home is in an area that does not lose power often or for long. |

Yep, still no power...2 days and counting. Maybe we should have figured out a way to hook into the generators of the 2 idling locomotives parked on the Taylor Street underpass last evening. Could have gotten hours of free electricity.
Does the Village of Glen Ellyn have any idea when power is expected to be restored? That's what I really want to know. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bitterboy, "Have you seen my box?" |
