With our water bill - which we have long paid through electornic funds transfer. Yet each month with our bill, we get another envelope. I know it is just pennies here and there, but if the village could save a couple of thousand pennies month in and month out ...

The Village makes so much money with its vehicle window annoyance stickers it can afford to throw it away on envelopes. Helps the recycling effort, too. Actually,, we pay virtually all of our bills via the 'net; very few snail-mail anything at all to us any more. Most just zap us a monthly “your statement is ready online” email. Someday the Village will join the 21st century. Someday. The on-screen announcements on Channels 6 and 17 have advanced to the point where they are now outdated by only a few months, so we're getting somewhere. (Mark, I'm sorry, but I believe the Village still thinks horses use the horse trough.)

No apologies necessary Ted - points very well taken. The village has made great strides in cost savings/green/communication efforts and yet has a long way to go. These posts and the comments received from customers help prioritize the ongoing issues. So please keep them coming - they are appreciated! Addressing the envelope issue specifically - and I could not believe this either - since the village uses a vendor to print and mail its bills, the vendor would charge the village MORE to REMOVE the envelope than it does to include it. The additional cost would be significant and would likely be passed on to customers, thus the decision stands at including the envelope until it becomes at least cost-neutral to remove it. That being said, for those concerned, there is an option to return the envelopes to the Civic Center cashiers or police departments to be (re)used. Thanks again. Keep those comments coming - they are part of what makes this village so great. Mark Mark Pfefferman

Ted, You are being very unfair to our progressive little burg. Have you not seen the new-and-improved exterior of the Historical Society's HQ on Main Street just south of Five Corners? The Village ban on billboards has obviously been rescinded, and the sign code chucked once and for all. The old goal of making new construction fit in with Glen Ellyn's tradition Victorian / Saxonony look is obviously a thing of the past. (The new look being, “1980's Strip Mall.”) The people of the Historical Preservation Society, the Village Architectural Review Commission, and the Glen Ellyn Historical Society itself have obviously been abducted by space aliens and replaced with representatives of the the American Plastics and Stainless Steel Overkill Association. Luddites be gone! Glen Ellyn has entered the 20th Century!
