What? You think I'm kidding? Don't confuse E.C.Segar's Popeye with the cartoons. Don't confuse Harold Gray's Little Orphan Annie with "Annie". I guess one also has to have an appreciation of art to enjoy the Masters.

I am mistaken, sir. Please accept my apologies. I must admit that I have always been a fan of Chris Ware and his Jimmy Corrigan work. But at least we can agree that Hemingway was the single most overblown American author ever. I take solace in this.

I think Catcher in the Rye was the most overblown book pushed on high school students. I never read it then, as an adult heard about all the serial killers who listed it as one of their favorite or most influential reads, then finally read it and thought it outright sucked.
As for Hemingway, I liked The Sun Also Rises.

Spacie, I looked up the Anita Blake books. I am addicted. I love when I can read aseries one right after the other. With so much rain over the weekend I read the first five. I'm on Blue Moon which I believe to be about halfway. It reminds me of Stephanie Plum in the supernatural world. Is the Meredith Gentry series as good?

If you love to read, and have a lot of time, try the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

Just read Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and really enjoyed it. A great story on many levels.

Spacie, I finished the Anita Blake series in a little over two weeks. Of course we had to go out to dinner alot. When the ardeur hit so did the sex. I just finished the first Merry Gentry. It was a much slower read for me. I'm going to read the next one because I'm not sure that I enjoyed it as much as the other series.
Hermsdaughter, what is the Outlander series about?

The Outlander series is about a woman who travels back in time to the 18th century to Scotland. They are "chick books" for sure, with romance, sex, suspense, etc. There are currently 6 in the series-all very long. I got through 3 of them, & enjoyed them, but needed to take a break to read something from a different genre.

a very good read is The Book Thief. It is considered a young adult read, but I found it fascinating. The story is told from a differnt point of view. It revolves around a very young girl in Germany during WWII.

Two by Cormac McCarthy. "No Country For Old Men." You will find that Tommy Lee Jones was perfectly cast. And I know that some will hate this. "The Road."
