Is the village putting any money into this or is it being funded by the Andersons and Frenchs of the world?

Highly placed sources tell me that the building on the corner came down today. Those same sources mentioned that the pride of 5 Corners is still standing. That POS may never come down.

Anyway...History Park...private funds, or is the village paying for part/some/most/all of it?

History Park

I am not sure as to the extent the village is contributing, however, the donations to date by private individuals, businesses and organizations is pretty impressive at almost $2.4 million

Confirmed-It's just a pile of brinks.

I don't get why the village does nothing about that eyesore.

It’s a memorial to all the teens that bought beer there in the 70’s & 80’s.

Maybe PADS could get some funding and renovate the place for use as a heating center in the winter, cooling in the summer.

Yoss, enlighten me on the meaning of "brinks"? Or just a typo as you multitask while admiring Skilling's afternoon weather forecast on GN?

Historical Society paying for brick building, Village paying for demo of canopy across street.
Cost of canopy removal to be reimbursed by current gas station owner upon sale.
One step at a time my friend.

Yes, please step up.

For everyone who opines on this board about the gum on the sidewalks in the CBD, the "clock", the "fountain", Safety Village. This IS a worthwhile mission, preserving Glen Ellyn's rich history. Step up and support this positive community endeavor.

You got me there, you clever person.

I was probably thinking of the Brink's truck I'll need to pay my taxes if Obama is elected.

Thank you, Mr. Candidate. My question may not have been very specific. The answer re: the gas station...a shameful reminder of how amazingly well this village was run in the past ...was not the subject of the question. Though I am happy to see something that should have been done five years ago is being done now. My question is about the History Park. Who is paying for that? Village or private funds...or a combo of the two? Am I right in my recollection that the village provided a loan to the History Park people a few years back so they could buy one of those buildings over there?

Also, so there is no confusion, I am all for people doing what they will with private funds. Building homes to their taste, going on trips to Borneo, building history parks, etc. However, I am not in favor of building history parks using public funds when a perfectly lovely museum already exists...albeit a small one, but how big need it be for a town of 27,000? Not to mention Forest Hill Cemetery which is a wealth of information about our past. My guess is that this is being funded privately as I think we would have heard about it if the village was paying for it...but my curiosity makes me wonder.

IMO, Five Corners has been underutilized and ripe for becoming GE's "next big thing." Adding Walgreen's and a package store didn't exactly help those plans...neither does gobbling up one of those corners with a park in a town where parks are stacked up next to one another like a cord of wood. Another example of the village fondly looking back rather than gazing into the future. This is what put us where we are today. Struggling to catch up in every sector.

The Village of Glen Ellyn has paid for the buildings and the Historical Society reimburses the village for the cost, with interest. Is that what you wanted to know, JRB? State Rep. Sandra Pihos just presented the Historical Society with a $20K grant to help beautify that corner. The Historical Society volunteers clock over 7000 hours per year. Pretty impressive...

By all means, shruggybear, anyone wanting to donate to this positive community endeavor should. Worthy as all fricken' get out...with private funds.

Again, couldn't agree more, 4MP. So long as the words "volunteers" and "private donations" are used. I'm even waring up to the thought of Duchon with artificial turf if these words are used.
