Had to take the youngest daughter there this morning due to one of my construction accidents. We were there for 3.25 hours and we were one of three visitors in the place. There were 4 nurses, 4 attendants and 2 doctors. I can't imagine how long the wait would be if it were actually busy.
Ordinarily, as a self-proclaimed medical care snob, I wouldn't have sent a pet there for help - but, I read all of the new ER propaganda and thought I would give it a try. Never again...
I've used that emergency room twice, although not in many years. The first time was when Tony broke his wrist. That was more than 20 years ago. No complaints.
The second time was within the last 10 years when I went in with chest pains. Nothing gets attention like a possible heart attack. Was very pleased with the service. However, being admitted was another story. Couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. They charged me for tests I didn't have (I made them refund that charge)and put me in a room with someone that just came down from isolation (they never found out what she had or if it was contagious). The cleaning lady came in to clean the room at 10:30 at night after they discharged the roommate and I had to listen to her have a 20 minute conversation, in Spanish, on the phone. My room was outside the nurses' station and I had to listen to them laughing and scratching all night. I finally got discharged, but the doctor assigned to me never prescribed any meds for me until AFTER I saw my own doctor the next day.
Rather than go back, just let me die.
As a side note, I will never go to a doctor that comes from a country that has liile no regard for women. But, that's just me.
Last time I had to go to Glen Oaks ER, I had been injured in a small town in Canada. The only hospital in the area (80 miles away) was open on Mondays and Wednesdays. Since I got hurt on Thursday and did not leave until Sunday, I had to make do with the small amount of medical supplies we had on hand. The nurse at Glen Oaks yelled at me for not seeking immediate care. After I explained that the only medical facility was only open 2 days a week, he accused me of lying.
I learned two things from this:
1. No matter how rude they can be, we have the best healthcare system in the world.
2. If you are in a country with socialized medicine, make sure you have an accident or heart attack on days that the medical facilities are open.
It was your lucky day that they were closed that day! We have been to Central Dupage Hospital on numerous occasions, and have always been treated very well. I drove by there the other day and couldn't believe how big the hospital has become.
We have never had a bad experience at CDH. Had Junior there, had various emergency room visits there and have been very pleased. It is nice to know that they are affiliated with Childrens Memorial Hospital as well.
Hopefully in the end, your daughter was given the care she needed and is doing better....
Will never go anywhere but Good Sam...door to door...exact same distance. Both about 7.5 miles. The most helpful and gracious ER staff I have dealt with outside of Evanston Hospital. And they don't ask pesky questions about repeated child injuries.
Sorry Fan, if my husband were still working there to fill some shifts, he'd have done a good job for you. Wish they would pay better so he could work there full time. It's so close to home! It is a little suprising to hear after all their publicity about no-wait ER suites.
My experiences at CDH have also been good but if you are ever in a serious accident but coherent enough to tell them where you want to be taken, definitely ask for Good Sam. They are Level 1 trauma and have almost everything you might need on hand.

My last experience at Glen Oaks was when a laborer of mine hit himself in the head on a job site. They gave him six stitches did nearly $12,000.00 worth of tests on him and released him. They saw that W/C claim and figured it was a good time to test some of the hardware. My headache lasted longer than his.
Can we have an update on your Daughter? Is she okay now?
Daughter is okay. She has a badly bruised foot...thank god that's all.
Candidate, my idea of construction is akin to you calling the receipt of a parking ticket lawyering. I had some doors off of the hinges so as to move some furniture around and do other miscellaneous tasks. She pulled on one of the doors and it fell on her....scary as hell.
She's still not walking on it but she is crawling all over the place...not skipping a beat.
