You probably shouldn't have kept your insurance with State Farm... |

Kurt is probably out there helping input the claims for the thousands of silly drivers out in this snow. You know you are in good hands. If the previous owners of our new house had, just once, shoveled the %$# sidewalks on the corner lot, I wouldn't be too tired from chipping through 12" of ice to try out the new Toro on the new neighbors. Fan? you still need some walks done? |

I am fully compliant with my Disdale imposed duty. I did the walks before work yesterday. Thanks.
Where'd you move? "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

Wow! If you are this easy, then you shouldn't have any objection to spotting me 6 a side... |

Blue house?
Good buy...that house was a steal. If it ever gets above 40, a fire-pit welcome to the neighborhood celebratory beer is in order. "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

Yep, thanks and already in the works. |

Rob, You'll have to stop by sometime and chat. I think you could do some catching up with my husband...didn't you graduate from GBW in '84?

Well, he knows your name. You must have had a reputation for something.... hmmm, hope it was something good.
I'm all about neighborhood gatherings and BB gatherings. Well, just gatherings in general. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. I just shoved the sidewalks, driveway, and porch. May I go out and play now?

Dear Dinsdale:
Since it will be 47 on Sunday, I am refusing to shovel. Sorry. Yours, GE Fan "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

Since my kids have the day off of school today, I left them the lion's share (tho on my way to get the paper I did clear the main sidewalk! Sorry.) Actually, I noticed this most recent snowfall made some of the never-shovelled ice patches more walkable than before. |

I'm also saving some shoveling for the kids. If they want to drive somewhere - they have to get the drive and walk done first! Actually, they'll have to wake up first!!

I did the shoveling this morning - at witnessed by GEmom2
BTW, GEmom2, you definitely got to see me looking my very best! No better look than a woman with a think stocking cap, glasses, a puffy ski coat, two layers of pants (I hate when me legs get cold while shoveling) and my "all weather shoes". Oh, Amy you're too funny - I wasn't expecting a fashion show at 7:30!
Most of the snow remains on our drive. I just hope it doesn't melt before the kids get out there to shovel. That won't teach them a very positive message on procrastination! |

No, you may not. That's no way to treat them. |

Got this today.
Hadley Safe Sidewalks A mom called me on February 22 to let me know that her daughter had fallen down on her way to Hadley. She was walking on the north side of Hawthorne, just west of Kenilworth when she fell. I told this mother that I would walk down and take a look at the sidewalk and get back to her. What I found was truly treacherous. Only two homeowners had cleared the snow and ice from the sidewalk. The remaining houses on the north side of the street had not cleared the sidewalk for what appeared to be an indefinite period of time. The footsteps of our students had turned the snow on the sidewalk into a solid patch of ice. The sidewalk that had been cleared had a thin sheet of invisible black ice that made it impossible to walk on in some places. (See pictures attached.) Unfortunately, all of the kids approaching the school on foot from the east must walk down this very path, because there is no crosswalk in front of the school. After coming to the intersection at Kenilworth & Hawthorne, everyone must cross to the north side of Hawthorne to continue on to school. Clearly, this stretch of sidewalk requires clearing after each snow, and regular applications of salt to keep it safe. I contacted Chris Dransoff, our principal, who contacted the district to see what could be done. The school district responded that they could not be responsible for clearing ice or snow from sidewalks on private property, but they would send out fliers to homeowners asking them to clear. I also spoke with Bill Holmer at the Village, and he likewise was convinced that the Village probably wouldn’t take responsibility since Glen Ellyn does not have an ordinance compelling homeowners to clear their sidewalks. As of 3/5/08, no solution has been identified. Fortunately, the following weekend warmed, and many of the homeowners got out and cleared the sidewalk in front of their homes. Two other Hadley PTA Board members along with myself, and my two kids got out and cleared up the rest on Sunday, 2/24/08. What can we do as concerned parents? We can make our voices as tax payers be heard by the Village. PTA President Marge DeLaRosa McGuire and I would like to see a large contingent of concerned parents attend the next Village Board meeting to formally request the village take action on this issue and work toward a permanent solution to clear snow & ice on school route side walks. The next Village Board meeting will be Monday, March 10 at 8 p.m. Please attend and encourage other parents to do the same Sincerely, Carolyn Slone Hadley Jr. High Safety Chair slone28@comcast.net Just a little shout out to D41, the sidewalks are NOT private property so your excuse is simply bogus. There is nothing stopping you (D41) from clearing the sidewalks other than your own lame excuses. And Mr. Holmer, while clearing the sidewalks is certainly not required of the people who live NEXT to the sidewalk, why isn't it the responsibility of the Village? After all, the Village OWNS the sidewalks and as the owner they SHOULD be responsible for maintaining so they can be used safely. I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |
