ok, about an hour ago i see this...a woman is sitting outside Enviroments at the corner of Main and Penn. facing the fire station...in a yellow foldup chair set up with a small radio, smoking a cigarette...and all her possessions stacked along the Penn. side of the building. Blocking the sidewalk. You can't ride a bike on the sidewalk downtown but you can do this??!!!!

I'm not certain why...other than a police dept. higher-up indicating his discomfort with the subject...also mentioning that posts like this foster "language of fear and hate". I truly believe they are super-uncomfortable acting on these types of complaints for one reason or another. Not sure why. Don't get me wrong...again...I feel our police department is just as good as any other in the surrounding area...but we really are putting up with a lot more than most communities would, IMO.

If someone is breaking the law...whether a full-time or ultra part-time resident, then the laws on the books need to be enforced. If it's OK to sleep in the pagoda at Prairie Path park, to sleep on the benches at Beister Fieldhouse, to set up chairs on the streets and pass the time...then I suppose I'd like to do those things with my kids. Come to think of it...camping out in the pagoda would be fun.

This is a hot button for Bitterboy and I. BB has gone as far as talking to the GEPD regarding and was met with little support.

I share your pain, nearly every day when I see Stinky McSmokes parked outside Einstein's. According to Clam he does have a GE residence, but why he doesn't bath on a regular basis is beyond me. And of course he parks himself in the middle of the outdoor tables to maximize his impact. Sorry, but I think he's just being an A**.

Well....you're both being watched. I've been watched for the past six to seven years. It's not all that bad. You'll get used to it.

I wondered why I always see a white Crown Vic sedan in my rearview.

I wonder if Mr. McSmokes is the same cigarette puffing vagrant we usually see parked on a bench outside Starbucks when we are out for dinner on Saturday evenings. He is smoking and is pretty stinky - maybe it's his brother.

We also saw several homeless reclining on the grass outside of homes on Hawthorne near Hadley last weekend. We assumed they were awaiting the GE Covenant Church PADS program. It was hours before the doors opened. Why is this allowed?

Also, in a few weeks the Lutheran Church will be starting the PADS program for the winter. I don't know if this is instead or in addition to the other local providers. This organization's effectiveness and community impact has to be reviewed, unless the mission is to flood the business district with vagrants. Confused

Probably. He seems to relish sitting in front of either Einstein's or Starbucks. There's clearly something askew with him as he looks half conscious whenever I see him. It's almost as if he wants to be front and center at these establishments. Life may have dealt him a bad hand, but he can still choose how to play it.

I think you may have hit on something here, GEM2. I thought that the Glen Ellyn PADS rotation was dropped from three nights per week to two because of some sort of public outcry. Now you have reminded me that it is a seasonal thing. We'll be back to three nights per week in no time...for a town of 27,000. We are the only town on the schedule, IIRC, that hosts PADS more than one night a week. That includes Elmhurst, Naperville, Wheaton....all towns two to five times the size of Glen Ellyn.

Something just isn't right here. And whether the police like to admit it or not...a solution should be looked into to.

Rare need for correction on my part. The schedule has Lombard on it twice per week.

My mistake...and my apologies.

This is the first time I have seen this. Are you serious? Figuring out who I am on this board is not rocket science. Let me get this straight, I am concerned about our village's lack of law enforcement and I am a hater? NOTHING BUT SCARE TACTICS. Makes me think there is much more here than meets the eye.

BB-Remember, our mission is to help our beloved homeless brothers and sisters find the road to self respect. We are not haters, but good Christians who are saddened by the fate that has befallen these people. As I've stated before, I wish them no ill will, just to try a new path in life. Hanging around GE has not improved their lot, but it has impacted the perception of the GEBD and in rare cases impacted public saftey.

I call upon local officials to work in concert with us. After all, they are here to protect and serve.
