last night mrs. superette and i were driving on hill just west of taylor when we noticed sparks flying from the top of a phone pole. we stopped, backed up and right in front of our eyes, it burst into flames -- just inches away was one of those cylindrical transformers. i called 911 for my first time. not a very efficient service, i must say.
anyway, we were parked there beneath the flames while on hold w/ 911 for a couple minutes when my wife suggested it might be smarter to put some distance between us and a blazing electrical fire. the little boy in me wanted to stay and watch. . . instead, i wisely took her advice and pulled away.
so if anyone was detoured from hill last night, now you know why.
T.A. The use of 911 from a cell phone still has some bugs in it as you have experienced. According to our Police Chief at the last Coffee With The Cops meeting, the industry is working on on a way to have you sent directly to the jurisdiction from where you are calling when you dial 911 from a cell. In the time being if you dial 911 from a cell phone in Wheaton or Glen Ellyn just ask to be connected to DuComm which is our dispatcher, or just state Glen Ellyn Police Emergency and you will get sent right to our dispatcher.
Oh and I am sorry to have created such a disruption in the neighborhood. I knew I shouldn't have put up that last string of lights.
thx for the insight. you nailed it -- it was definitely the cell phone transfer snafu happening during my call. the good news is it gotten taken care of quickly. and, i assume your light display is back to glowing brightly and festively.
