Why do you have to stop following bands you used to? Keep liking them and add more as you go. The first album I ever bought in 1973 was Led Zeppelin IV (came out in 1971). I was 7. Still listen to it on occasion to this day. Music does not get old, or lame, or out of date when you get older, you still like it deep down inside.

Good point. My MP3 is loaded with all the bands I grew up listening to. Besides, in case you missed the Grammy's the other day, music just aint what it used to be!!

Jeez...are you ever going to get along with Parker. FWIW, I am the only guy in Chicago that absolutely loathes Jimmy Buffet. Even though we share the same initials...even first names...I can't stand him.

Cheers Clam, here is to finally agreeing on something relating to Music...

Hi,

Aerosmith. Lynrd Skynrd (sp?) and the Allman Brothers Band. Still my faves. We went to a concert in Denver last year, and were surprised when Greg Allman showed up suddenly on the stage and started playing with the band. Can't remember the name of the band now. But Allman was still very good after all these years.

Ugh, I don't think that anyone suggested that anyone needs to stop listening to the bands they used to. FOLLOW THE RULES!

You are talking about "listening"...I am talking about "following." FOLLOW THE RULES!

How were those Led Zeppelin concerts?

I'm glad you fixed that....idiot.

It is threads like this that must have the retired t.a. superette chomping at the bit that he can no longer post. He is an accomplished musician that is obsessed with music.

He lost his fingers. It truly was an unfortunate event. He just can't peck with his nose fast enough to keep up.

Get well T.A.

I feel old. Back in the seventies when I was in my teens I worked at Ticketron in a Montgomery Ward store. Many of you probably never even heard of it. I was able to get to the machine and buy concert tickets before they went on sale to the public.(obviously, I was VERY popular during that time) My friends and I saw tons of concerts. Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, ELO, Rare Earth, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Temptations, The Four Seasons... Good, bad, it didn't matter. Tickets were cheap and the service charge was like 50 cents a ticket. What a great time.

I have to disagree with your last statement. Music is what is used to be, and better, but you aren't going to know that by watching the grammy's, listening to the radio, looking at the charts or going to iTunes or other mega music outlet. Good music has to be searched for like a needle in a haystack now. The music industry is force feeding us cookie cutter crap, but there are great bands out there still making incredible music, you just gotta wanna find it.

Jimmy Buffett overrated? As I live and breath, I thought I would never hear this statement made ever. He was bannished from the charts for being different and non-conforming and he then breaks big a few years ago with a country album and now is overrated. Oh sure, his "hits" like cheeseburger in paradise and margaritaville and others are cheesy and goofy and immature, but he has other songs that are just unreal. The songs where he really shines as a story teller and song writer will never get played because, well, they don't appeal to the brainless lemmings that listen to main stream music. He has a bevy of very well written, well crafted, intelligent songs that nobody will like because it is not about chicks or booze or partying.

And I would love to have is cash!

Following/listening, it is all the same. I believe Plant and Page are still kickin out the games this year. and isn't Zeppelin touring this year?

And Rush is as well there youngster, and they are tearing it up. Maybe you should go see them instead of reminising when you USED to follow them. They are still alive and cranking out good music. Get the big black SUV and head up to Summerfest this year to see them! Start FOLLOWING AGAIN.

Clam, We ate at Miller's Pub after the concert. Glad your son has started to show some musical maturity...always have found Led Z to be exactly what I need when wanted to crank it loud!

Fan, love Ben Folds....absolutely.

Might like Michael Bluble better. Really, he's great!

My favorite band in college had to be REM: One of my favorite bald men....

But, I LOVED REO Speedwagon, YES, and Foreigner in high school. John Mellencamp, 10,000 Maniacs, and Peter Gabriel are way up in my list too.

REO Rocks!

10,000 Maniacs

First record purchase?
Either Debbie Boone: You Light Up My Life (I was possibly 11 or 12.)

OR

This gem!

OK, I think I've hit maximum capacity in links!

Ben Folds in good. Very good. But why pick his girliest song to showcase him? I have always preferred the bitter, angry Ben Folds.

My neighbor...I'll call him Brad...mainly because his name is Brad, made fun of my calling Donald Fagen my musical hero. Brad can be so mean.

I remember this as being one of the first 45s I bought on my own. I had to be 10 or 11. Bought it at E.J. Korvette's. I really thought I was way cool at the time. Still have it on my ipod to this day.
