Ironically, I was dropping off my water bill when I noticed. Really looks and smells like crap. There are few pennies and nickels in the bottom of the thing. Surpised .50 wasn't over there.

Some dumb arse probably slipped on the wet bricks. Man, does my arm and hip hurt! Those bricks are hard!

"Construction of the structure began last fall, and officials thought now would be the idea time to finish it up.
The fountain cost about $1,000, but to enhance the area, village staff also put in new benches and bricks.
President Vicky Hase said most of the fountains staff came across were huge.
"It was a matter of finding one that was the proper scale," she said. "I think the center of the civic center called for something, and I think it looks good."
Barrett agreed.
"We didn't want it to be something that would distract the view, but instead, add to it," Barrett said. "We've heard a lot of compliments."
The fountain cost about $1,000, but the bricks and benches were $23,000.

For that much money, she could at least be a little more effusive and say it looks great! Interesting strategy on how to estimate the budget of a project - I may try that with a home improvement project or two around here. That would likely go over pretty well.

Seems that they felt the need to reach out to Mr. Hudson to put a PR piece in the paper...oddly enough...with very specific pricing details.
"The project cost about $5,300, with concrete installment making up more than half of the price tag. The fountain itself cost $800, Sullivan said."
There you go. $800 for the fountain. No lying or misrepresentation at all.
