Does anybody know anything about a lightning strike at the corner of Hillside and Brandon. My mother-in-law who lives on Brandon, heard a loud boom, saw bright lights, and said there seemed to be a fire. Yesterday she told my wife there was a hole in the street at that intersection. I've found nothing in the newspapers about it. Can anybody enlight(ning) me. BTW, I'm in Alabama for two more weeks.

Drove this way yesterday...nothing big to note. Looks like the village may have filled a small pot hole, but hardly noticeable.

The wire was live for about an hour until ComEd could get there. It left holes in the street, the heat melted the pavement and concrete. The debris was very cool, chucks of melted concrete in which the sand/silica or limestone transformed into glass. Kids were having fun digging through it. As DTM said, all fixed up.

Oddly, Saturday night around 9:30pm, the same block of Brandon on the other end had a power outage due to a felled branch, probably loosened by Friday night's storm. Power was back on in two hours.
