Went with the hubby this evening - cold weather, food on a stick, Superman - ah, good times! The bluegrass band playing this evening was awesome. I almost forgot all about the Taste, as both hubby and I were out of town this week on business. I'm glad we remembered it, in the end! (Although I have to say there were A LOT of roving packs of hormonal teenagers tonight...and I'm sure my own son was among them.)

Nothing says spring in Glen Ellyn like hosting people we don't necessarily want in our town while they operate rides that may or may not be up to code and having the operators leer oh so inappropriately at our underdressed 15 and 16 year old female residents. Just such an awesome freak show.

I absolutely love the number of couples at the carnival that appear to have shown up as just that...40 year-old couples...no children in tow, just themselves...hanging out at the fair. What am I missing? Other than playing "Spot The Tattoo", why would an adult couple hang out around the Tilt-A-Whirls if they didn't have to?

The longer I go to this thing, the more the ride operators remind me of Colgan Air pilots.

Almost didn't go, but we did stop by for a few minutes.

As is my way, I squeezed off a few quick shots.

Glass work, the process of which I find fascinating.

Climbing tower. Finally out on the street where it belongs, which spotted from a distance might draw some visitors in to the Taste.

There was Music.

There seems to be more trains than usual every time we have a downtown event.

Thanks for sharing the photos! I really like the rock climber shot. Smile

The kids cleaned out my wallet, so we have done our part to support the annual event. Seriously, I do not have a single bill left. This event does help fund the GE Fourth of July celebration, so I hope the weather today is beautiful and that everyone gets out there!!

Clamato - After dinner on Friday, we strolled over to the carnival and took a little walk down memory lane. No kids in tow, but good memories of waiting for them to come around so we could wave as they passed. Sigh.

As for the many loud trains, is the adding of green space along the railroad tracks still a main component of the Village Plan? I think park land, instead of parking, along the tracks is idiotic.

I spoke to one of your kids, GEM2...didn't make me the slightest bit warm and fuzzy. Matter of fact...it was quite cold. The temps kept me from gazing at the unwashed and, yes, the downright freaky. I have a neighbor that heads up there and snaps off some good photos. Wish I knew how to use a camera better.

The ride "foreman" was yelling at the operator of the Tilt-A-Whirl after he apparently allowed another group of people on it. As it was nowhere near shut down time, I assume that there was something wrong with the machine. They were bickering back and forth and he yelled...yes, yelled...something like, "One more time....but this is the last ride." One must think that the ride was broker and being taken out of commission. But not broken enough to offer one more spin...or was it? Sounded by the conversation that it went on many rides after initially being ordered to shut down. I may have misinterpreted what I was hearing...but I doubt it.

I did have the good pleasure of speaking to Sparky the GEFD dog. He was waiting to cross the tracks as a choo-choo was roaring by. Like the Christmas tree lighting ceremony that takes place a mere Cochran to Condi pass length from the tracks...I thought it was a cool way to break the kids of GE from their fear of trains and lure them to the tracks. Big Grin

I was pleasantly surprised by the local restaurants that took part this year. Chicago Prime and Chicks and Salsa were there, along with Barones and Tap House! Much better selections than meat on a stick. (Though the chocolate covered strawberries on a stick looked yummy.)

Still sore about the Facebook rejection, hmmm?? He said they were looking for your son, but had been unable to figure out which ride he was on. Hope it wasn't that Tilt-A-Whirl. Eek

Thanks for the food information, Observer. When we were in the CBD Friday, the food area was closed. Sounds like it would definitely be worth another trip!

You are such a good friend!!

Thanks for the reminder - no chocolate-dipped strawberries or funnel cake for me. Frown

Chicken and salsa sounds good, though.
